Dear President Barack Obama,

I want to tell you about an important conflict in a place called Darfur. This is an area in Sudan, troubled with fighting between the North and South. There are also mass killing to the point of genocide. There are constant displacements of many families. Those, including many others crimes are going on as we speak. What we need to do is put a stop to it.

Over the civil war, while the genocide had also been happening, two million people have been killed, and four million have been displaced. Some of the crimes that have happened include, forced displacement, starvation, bombing of civilian area, rape, enslavement, and much more. One key country is involved with this as well, China, who has been using this as a way to get resources, namely oil. The people of the Sudanese government are attempting to shut others out, so we don’t know about everything that’s been going on. Some people of Darfur have escaped to live here in American and are telling their story, so they are some of the key sources we have here.

You should think of this not just as the President, but also as a father and husband. These people kill children’s parents right in front of them, they also do the same with rape for women and female children. Can you imagine them doing something like that to your wife or daughters? It gives you a terrible feeling, doesn’t it? Some children are forced to kill their friends, family, and anyone in their sight, or get killed themselves. I know you would never want to do that and they don’t want to either. This is just another reason we need to stop the genocide.

There are many things you can do to stop this. One is to follow in Former President Bush’s example and talk to China’s leader about this. As stated above, China is taking and using this situation just for the oil. They don’t seem to care at all about the people who are living on their land. We could also send more help and give support to the people there. They all need the help they can get. Try and get other countries to help too, the more the merrier! Finally, just let Sudan know we’re watching, that we know something is going on. It’s important for them to know that we aren’t as oblivious as they believe. I know some may argue that it’s Sudan’s and Africa’s problem and that we shouldn’t get involved, but it can turn into much more! The Holocaust started out as Germany’s problem, but became something terrible that involved countries all over the globe. Sudan’s problems could grow into the Holocaust’s evil twin. That’s why we need to stop this before it starts.

So all I have left to ask is, what are you going to do? Are you just going to let this go, or are you going to get up and do something about it? It’s up to you, the rest of our leaders, and the U.N.. You know what’s right, I’m sure of it. I wish you luck and thank you for reading this letter for such an important conflict.
