What Was I Thinking?

What was I thinking? That was a bad decision on my part, that’s all I could think about!! I didn’t go out for wrestling my freshman year for some stupid excuses. I told myself I would take a year off and make some money but I knew it was because I was scared and I didn’t know if I could work that hard. I missed out on a whole year and that’s a lot of experience that I could’ve had if I had only gone out. After the wrestling season had started I regretted my choice. I missed wrestling and only wanted to get out there on that mat. So at that point and time I knew next year I was going to go out.

I was getting pretty pudgy and fat during the winter because I hadn’t gone out. I felt really stupid for making such a dumb decision and regretted every minute. I also found out that if you don’t get into shape, even a little, before football, it makes two-a-days so hard. I nearly quit football because I was in so much agony. I knew it was because I was in terrible condition and it was really getting to me. I pushed hard through football and played out the season of my sophomore year.

It was time for the wrestling meeting and I knew I was going and signing up. The whole team was full of my friends and they all convinced me to go out. I knew I could make a contribution to the team because I was ready to work hard and maybe lose some weight. I ended up losing about 30 pounds and got in really good shape. I struggled for the first part of the season because in losing all that weight I became a little bit weaker and was used to it. I adjusted and finally started winning toward the end of the season. I came close to making it to state, one match away.

I plan on going out for wrestling my junior and senior year. It’s a great sport and I love to do it. In wrestling, the tournaments are some of the best times of my life. I build friendships and have experiences that I’ll remember for a life time.
