Child abuse is a big problem in today’s society. Parents could hurt their kids mentally, physically, and sexually. Child abuse kills approximately 5 children every day. There are 3.6 million cases of child abuse every year in the US alone. Child abuse leads to the lack of trust in people and the world at a very young age.

Mental child abuse can damage the image themselves; this happens when they are constantly being told they are useless, ungrateful, fat, ugly, etc. This lowers their self-esteem and self-confidence. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and self-harm can be gained by mental abuse. Mental abuse can range from verbal abuse and constant criticism to manipulation, intimidation, and refusal to be pleased.

Physical child abuse is the easiest form of abuse to notice. It consists of - hitting, shaking, burning, biting, pinching, choking, beating, throwing, or any other actions that can cause physical injuries. Often children being abused will try to hide it of won’t speak up because they are scared or embarrassed - also, for the being removed from their parent’s homes. Parents who use excessive punishment are not in control. Physical punishment does not teach the children anything.

Children who are sexually abused as a child are 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy. Also, are at greater risk of STD. There is no valid excuse for touching a minor, person under the age of 18, inappropriately or sexually. 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5 boys will be sexually abused under the age of 18. For sexually abusing a minor in the US you could be sentenced to 10 – 15 years in prison and the possibility of being labelled as a sex offender.

Clearly, child abuse is a major topic in the US. There are 3 types – physical, mental, and sexual abuse. They are all equally bad. Child abuse has no real solution, kids won’t speak up and we can’t make parents stop. 14% of all men and 36% of all women in prison were abused as minors. 80% of 21 year olds who were abused as children have at least one psychological disorder.

I was hoping people would see it and it would start something to make people realize how big this problem is.
