Denim on Denim is basically a metaphor for too much of a good thing not being a good thing, whether it’s eating too much of one thing or doing a sport or activity over and over daily to the point where you are just tired of doing it. This is a really big thing for me because I do overeat a lot of the good stuff like candy. It may be good at first, but after awhile it will get tiring. You feel like just laying down and basically collapsing on the couch. I believe that doing too much of a good thing is not a good thing.

I came to this realization one day in school when I saw one of my classmates wearing denim on denim, which is jeans on some sort of type of jean clothing, like a shirt. I told her, “That doesn’t work! That denim on denim does not look good. It’s too much.” I just kept going, “One is good, two is too much. It just doesn’t work.” I didn’t know this was my belief statement until later on when I was in Creative Studies trying to figure out what to pick. I was about to pick Music Relieves Stress for my I believe statement. When my teacher and a classmate said that was too boring and overused. My mind was a blank until I saw it right in front of me. There she sat wearing denim on denim and I knew I had to get the word out. My belief, beware of Denim on Denim, was born.

I see this belief everywhere, and I mean everywhere because this belief can basically relate to everything. Doing too much of a good thing gets tiring. For example, I’m already tired of eating at a restaurant that I go to all the time because I ate food from their for almost a full week straight. When you chew gum the flavor goes away. When you go to Disneyland too much the rides get old and you wish that they would build more. So, yea, I see it everywhere.  No matter what you do, after awhile you will get tired of going to that restaurant, eating that food, going to that same place over and over again.

Everyone has their denim on denim, but my personal denim on denim is overeating fast foods. Most of the time I do this, in the end, I always feel lousy and basically crash wherever I am, even if it’s at the restaurant of fast food place.  One specific time I did this was at a restaurant called Texas Steak Roadhouse (amazing food) and I always eat the bread they give out because it has a sweet flavor. So I eat it and really overdo it to a point where I can’t eat it because it’s too much and the taste is a little annoying and gets old. Once the main meal comes I’m always like no! The food is too good to give up, so I keep eating it and eating it ‘till, finally, I have finished most of my meal and all that’s left is the vegetables in one corner of the plate. After eating, I felt that I was going to throw up in the restaurant, but instead, I drank water because I needed something that will help me and that will relieve the stress of overdoing something.

After a while, I started crashing and kinda be asleep because it was night time. I got one of those burps that when you burp you can feel the food coming out a bit. I overdid it. t was basically my denim on denim moment. After many occasions where I did this, I stopped eating too much of delicious food and learned how to do everything in moderation. Moral of the story denim on denim is fun, whether it be overeating and then crashing wherever you are or wearing too much or one thing or one color, but only on special occasions.
