Sally is my supervisor in the youth apprenticeship program at Ascension. She has helped me find my love for working in healthcare. Before Sally, I worked in a nursing home, where I was always put in bad positions and had to cover for everyone else. I thought that there was no way that I would ever become a nurse because I hated it, but it turns out I just hated the job that I had before.

Sally has been supportive of me since day one. She is always willing to help out anyone. I know that I can always text her about anything and she will do her best to help out. “If you ever need to talk about anything like if you are stressed out or had a bad day, you can always call or text me. There can be some very stressful days, especially with this kind of job,” She once told me. At that moment she made me feel greatly supported.

She is also very quick to respond and help me out. If I need anything I text her and she always responds quickly to try and resolve the issue. One night I had to complete paperwork because of an incident at work. That next day I woke up with texts from Sally asking if I was okay and if I needed anything. I had had incidents like this happen at my last job and had to fill out reports but no one had ever made sure I was okay before–which made me want to go back to work even though something bad had happened during my last shift.

I never thought that I would love working, but because of Sally and the other amazing staff at Ascension, I found what I want to do for the rest of my life. A job that allows me to help people, connect with all different types of people, and to learn from people who have had more or different experiences than me. I have already gotten to see and learn so many different things while working in the hospital and I continue to learn more and more every day.

Sally is an amazing role model for everyone. She is a perfect example of what kind of nurse and person someone should be. She is caring, kind, and empathetic. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to learn from her. Sally–thank you for being such an amazing teacher and role model for me. You have truly made such an impact on my life and helped me become the person I am today.
