“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.”(Josh Billings)

Vroom. The van pulls into the pound parking lot and a pack of Healey’s come running out and into the building.

“Let's go look at the dogs!” Mom announced, once we got into the building.

“Well, you do want a small dog,” I mentioned. Then the pack of Healey’s raced down the hallway to the dog’s territory.

“Mom, can I look at the small pets?” I requested.

“Why not? We will be in the dog area if you need us.”

“Yay!!” I shouted.

Bang. The door closes before mom even gets to say anything else.

“Uhh, mom you might want to come in here,” Alex said weirdly. Not knowing what is going on, she rushed to the dog zone with me racing after her. When we walked into the room there was nothing but empty cages.

“Mom? What are we going to do now?” Nicholas says sadly.

“Yeah, all of us were so anxious to get a new dog and now we can't!” Andrew exclaimed. The Healey’s were thinking of what they should do, then our dad thought of an idea.

“I have an idea! There's a dog pound a couple of blocks down.” He suggested.

“Awesome! But can we hang out here for a few minutes? Please!” Nicholas requested.

“ No, we need to get to your Scout ceremony in time.”

The Healeys got into the car and, Vroom we took off into the streets of Providence and headed to the other pound down the road. We pulled into the parking lot, got out and raced to the door.

As soon as we walked in the lady who worked there immediately said, “I know what you need.”

“Show us then, please?” Dad said happily.

We walked into the back room and then we see her, the perfect dog. An American Bulldog all white with black spots, her tongue hanging out through the bars with her doggie smile staring at us. We stopped and she started soaking us in dog slobber. We stood up and it looked like we just jumped into a pool.

“I want her!” My mom exclaimed.

A Few Hours Later

The pack now has a new member, Bella: The Psycho Dog. On the drive home Bella found her favorite spot in the van, the mini table in between the two front seats. She also had a little accident on the way home on my mom’s important work files. The Healey pack got home and ran to the backyard to play with their new puppy. Bella was only a year old when they got her, but she has changed our lives for the better.

“Time for your scout ceremony,” Mom said through the window.
