The light weight of the keys but the massive weight of trust. My green lanyard with the MSU Spartan logo is always with me. The worn fabric shows all the use that it has had. The black clip holds the two ends together like a tree to the ground. This lanyard holds the round black key to my 2007 GMC Canyon. As the keys jingle in my pocket, I feel their weight slowly going up and down with each pace I take. As the keys rub against each other they make a soft jingle every time I move. When I pull them out of my pocket I realize that my keys give me tons of opportunities. They allow me to go hunting and to other places that I want to go.

The bed of the truck is filled with all of the hunting gear for the night's hunt. The camo bags are overflowing with clothes. It is also filled with by black plastic bow case. Inside rests the bow that I got for Christmas the year before. The bags and cases fit together perfectly like pieces of a puzzle. I pull the black bed cover back over to prevent anything from flying out on the road. I put the keys into the ignition and twist them they make the hum of a 2007 GMC Canyon turning on. I look to the passenger side of the two-door truck and all I see are the camo crocs I wore to mow the lawn. The smell of the grass drifting up from my shoes fills the car. The black interior with the light reflecting from the window reminds me of a car show.

Pulling out of the driveway with nobody in the car. I am going to the hunting spot by myself. My dad is not home from work so he is not able to take me. My car keys are in the ignition. I thank them for being able to take me where I want to go.  I did not see anything that night but when I am on my way back I can stop and get food because no one is with me. Although I was happy to go out by myself, tomorrow is a new day when I can go out with my dad.

The next day I go out hunting again, but this time with my dad. My dad has got his hunting jeans on and a sweatshirt turned inside out to match the color of his surroundings in the woods. His glasses are a little crooked from the years he has been wearing them. He tells me to drive safely and that he wants to get to the hunting spot unharmed. I see a deer walking in from the woods and before I know it he is at 20-yards. I make a perfect shot and  I text my dad saying I got one, he replies saying, “ how big?” I say, “not that big but big enough.” We walk up to the deer and take pictures, then drag it to my truck. The deer weighs close to 200 pounds me and my dad sweating from the drag through the freshly cut soybean field. My dad has the front legs and I have the back legs. We lift it up like a basket of laundry. With a loud thud, the brown deer finally makes it into the tan bed of the truck.

As I drive home I am thankful for my keys getting me to be able to do fun things. I realize that the opportunities that the keys give me are not physical opportunities but opportunities to bring my dad and me closer together. The keys allow me to take him places that we both love to go and do things we both love to do. My keys allow for endless opportunities to have fun and endless opportunities for my dad and me to share special moments.
