Growing up, some of my favorite memories were from the summers I spent at my grandparents’ house. There were countless activities to enjoy. My grandma is an excellent baker, and we would often make muffins, cookies, and bread together. Every morning, she make the best breakfast for me and my brother each morning.

They lived on a large property with a house at the end of a long, winding driveway. There was a basketball hoop, a pool, and the whole thing was surrounded by a bunch of trees. Swimming in their pool during the summer created some of my most cherished memories. My brother and I would race and make whirlpools. Since the pool was surrounded by trees, my grandpa gave us 10 cents for every berry and nut we picked up from the pool to keep it clean.

In addition to all the pool fun, my grandparents took us on weekly field trips around Wisconsin. We visited many interesting, memorable, fascinating places, but my favorite was Old World Wisconsin. We enjoyed various activities there, especially at the farmhouse, where we could wash clothes or dishes, gather eggs, and carve wood.

I am incredibly grateful for the time my grandparents dedicated to taking care of me and my brother over the summer during those summers. They gave me unforgettable memories and made those some of the best of my childhood. These days make me wish I could have lived in these summers forever.
