Life stands still
It was a hot autumn day and I was preparing to go to school. The death of my mother, though years behind me still fresh in my mind. I remember it as though it was yesterday, an innocent 4-year old girl getting ready to take on another day. That day in which would change my life. I woke up and immediately went to my mother’s bedside to wake her. When she woke up, she called the glta service in Lapeer to come and pick us up for breakfast at the country Café. I sat there fidgeting like 4-year olds do, figuring any possible thing to keep my busy mind company until they arrived. My mom being relaxed and fearless as she always was waited around calmly. Finally that big grey bus thudded down the gravel path to our home. I ran out of the house to greet them with a pleasant smile, and got in the bus. My mom followed after me as she plunged into the seat in front of me. We backed out of the driveway on that quiet bullock road and onward to Lapeer. I was small and hated being stuck behind those two tall dark seats, so I sat up and put my head on the top of the seat. My mom turned around and asked me in that sweet tone
“What are you going to order for breakfast?” and sweetly I replied
“Mickey mouse pancakes “
“Of course” she said sarcastically for she had already known, since they were my favorite. When we got to the restaurant I immediately ran up to my friend sue, who worked there.
“What will it be today?” she asked
“Mickey mouse pancakes” I grinned in reply
“Should have known “Then I ran back to the seat where my mom was waiting. I remember when id sit down shed always tickle me and make me smile, how I miss those days. While waiting for my pancakes id stack the little creamer cups into a pyramid, when those were all stacked id then use jellies. Waiting anxiously for my food to come id bounce my legs and hum silly tunes to myself. My mom of course would sit and chat with each waitress about how there day went, and how their children were, just small things like that. Finally my food came, that hot and steamy smell of fresh blueberries and sticky syrup filled the air. I spread the whip cream eyes on the pancakes and eat the bacon mouth
“Crunch “crunch”
And in no time it was gone.
We got up and walked towards the register to pay for our food, leaving behind empty plates and soon to be shattered memories. She handed her a written check and walked over to the pay phone to call our family friend Pam. We sat outside waiting for the arrival of that small grayish black car, listening to the chirping birds and watching cars whipping by until finally, she was there. Jumping in the car and heading back home, I never sat on the sides of the car, I sat in the middle. I buckled myself in, layed down and dozed off. When I woke up we were about to pull up to maple leaf rail road tracks. I rubbed my eyes and looked toward the right, where there were forests of bushes crowding the tracks, so we inched forward. Like a ticking clock in which the alarm was set for death. The car inched forward once more, this time not to see green bright bushes, but a big black box on wheels with a bright light whos horn sounded far too late.
“CRASH”
I must have blacked out from the blow because I didn’t remember hearing or seeing anything after that. When I woke up I touched pam
