My Great Loss

I remember it like it was just yesterday when my grandpa, who was loving and caring, passed away. It was the last day of sixth grade. I was walking when I spotted both of my parent’s cars parked in front of the house which meant they weren’t at work.

“Oh look mom and dad are home.” said my sister.

“ Wonder why.” said my brother. While hearing my sister and brother, I’m thinking to myself something really bad must be going on in order for both of them to be home. As I got closer to the door I could hear them crying.

I clearly see the image of my mom holding onto my dad while both of them were shedding tears. At that moment is when it hit me. My grandpa had passed away. I was really sad at the fact that I wasn’t going to see him again and a little disappointed because I didn’t get to say goodbye. As I’m feeling like this I’m thinking he’s gone forever and theres nothing I can do. My heart broke into pieces to see my dad breaking down like that.

I will never forget that image. I ran up to him and told him “Dad everything’s going to be alright, he’s in a better place now. I love you!” My dad, who was very affectionate hugged me really tight and lied in my arms. “Mija I know he’s in a better place now, and I love you too!’’ As I’m hearing my dad say this I’m thinking to myself I’m very lucky to have a man like this as my dad because most dads in this situation would have avoided their family and gone to of drinking instead.

After hearing all this and talking to my dad I realized that no matter what life throws at you or takes away from you you can get through it if you have God in your life. Like in my dad’s case, he was hurting and he still kept it strong for his family.
