Early Morning Light
I remember waking up just as the sun was rising and finding the phone beside me, still connected. The early summer light filtered in through the curtains, casting orange and yellow shadows on my walls as a bird sang it's morning greeting outside. Putting the phone to my ear, I held my breath and listened closely. In and out, deep, slow breaths filled my ear and I smiled. This was what utter contentment felt like. Hanging up the phone, I placed it lightly beside my bed and crawled back under my warm covers to sleep for a few more hours until I was awoken for the day.
