I’m sure we all agree that Pandora made a really bad boo-boo. But I give her credit for keeping Hope in the box. Hope is a friend who gives us strength only when we need it most. It is hope that pulls us out from a deep abyss and tells us to carry on, promising a brighter future. Like many people, I first doubted the power of hope; I saw it as a fool’s dream of a better world. My opinion changed when I was thrown into an abyss of my own.
Sitting on the hospital bed and watching the surgeon’s attempt to reattach my amputated fingertip, I found it hard to come to terms with reality. Did that really happen? Am I dreaming? Unfortunately, I was not. Two weeks before final examinations, an accident like this was the last thing I needed. I felt like spending the rest of my life crying like a baby. The news that my reattached tip would not survive did not help at all. But after a week of mourning, hope finally arrived from nowhere to lend me a hand. The feeling was indescribable and inexplicable. That day, I finally accepted the truth and convinced myself that, despite all that happened, there will be brighter days ahead. When I opened my books and started to study again, I was resurrected. In the most desperate of times, hope gave me the strength to put everything behind me and pursuing my dreams.
