Moses!... Moses, Moses, Moses. A name, a very powerful name in my opinion. Such an extraordinary name that when one is given it, they begin to wonder. They wonder multitudes of things such as, why me? Why was I given this name? What’s its meaning? When other people hear it what will they think?, and especially the question I always had in mind. What does this name mean for me and what’s its effect on who I’m going to be?

The name Moses is powerful because he was a great religious and historical prophet of god. When I was a little boy I was always told “Hey you're famous”, “Hey your name is in the bible”, and since it was such a big name I asked my mom why I was given the name Moses. She said that when I was born I didn't cry like most babies and was instead, was silent. She compared this to when god silenced Moses in the bible and thus was my name! In my head at first, I had thought this to be a possibility of why my name was what it was. Then I came back to realization that I’m a pretty social person so the reason of silence didn't quite fit me or my characteristics.

My dad called me Chuck, which I thought was just a cool nickname so I always went with it. Then when I actually put in some thought I had an epiphany that maybe being called Chuck meant I was going to be famous like the famous singer and performer Chuck Berry. To make sure I asked my dad and it turned out my assumption was wrong. The nickname ended up tying all the way back to the topic of Moses in the bible. The reason I was called chuck was because Charlton Heston played Moses in the movie “The Ten Commandments” and his friend called him Chuck. In this case my point is that what you think might be the reason, ties back to the name itself.

If someone were to just wonder all their life what their name meant, they wouldn't be living their own life. Now if you think about maybe the reason for names is that there isn't one besides the fact that it gives people something to address you by. It makes sense in the way that most people their name from being named after a specific person who had lived in the past. That person you were named after made their name big by living their own life and doing their own things. Therefore any human being or person can make something out of their name. What any old someone does with their name whether it’s good or bad gives the name its meaning when it refers to them and them alone, no one else. Your name doesn't determine your future it you have to make your own path even if your name comes from a famous singer or the one historical prophet that actually confronted God.

Although it’s a bit cheesy and cliche I’ll still say…
“A name doesn't make a person, a person makes a name”
