It was a night I will forever remember. September 27th, 2013. Tonight was Clarkston’s biggest football game of the year. Stoney Creek had just tore apart Lake Orion, our biggest rival, the week before 35-6. I decided to go because I wanted to be a witness of what would be a great game. But the game, the game is way beside the point. I was single at the time. I was not ready to give up but I was close. Being single meant that nobody wanted you. Nobody liked you for who you were and that hurts. People say I am the real life Ted Mosby from the CBS show “How I Met your Mother” because I never wanted to give up. I always thought there was a chance.

I was not among the most popular kids in school so I stood alone at the top of the student section. Dark and cold, I decided I was going to leave soon. Karma must have been on my side because one of my friends showed up just as I was going to leave. Her name was Alex. She had brought 5 of her friends and I knew 4 of them. Kristen and unknown stood behind me. I had not gotten a good look at unknown. But I was about too. I found out later that Kristen was determined to set us up. She slapped by butt. I turned around to the most beautiful, gorgeous, amazing girl I had ever seen in my entire life. She was wearing a carolina blue Nike sweatshirt and her varsity jacket over that. She was wearing her Navy blue Nike Free Runs with a pink swoosh on the sides. I threw myself in between Kristen and unknown. Unknowns name is Katelyn. I knew when I first locked eyes with her that I needed to date this girl.

We went all night talking about life and just learning everything about one another. There was this feeling inside me that was different. She meant happiness to me. She had the cutest laugh and her hair was perfect. She made me feel important. She was curious about me. She honestly wanted to know me. She wondered about my baseball life, my social life, and just random things. She did not care what it was. She wanted to know everything. I had never met a girl like this before.

We talked all weekend and then Monday morning came around. I was gonna build up the courage to ask her out. I met her in the staircase after second hour. I felt it again. The feeling I got when I first saw her. I knew this was right and this was the point where there was no turning back. Nor did I want so that was not an issue. We talked a little first and my face progressively got more red, as we inched closer to the big question. She asked what was wrong with me, and I replied “I can not stop thinking about you Kate. I want you to be my girlfriend. Will you be my girlfriend?”

“Yes. Of course. I was hoping you were going to ask.”

Here we are. 4 months later. Still going strong. Never failing to impress one another every last day. Falling in love with each others company much less one another. Neither of us see this coming to end soon. I am so happy with Katelyn. I will never forget her. She will always be there. She is a part of me. Had I given up, I would not have seen this opportunity. This meant a new beginning. A new chance. New hope. I knew that I was not going to let this girl go. I was going to be there for Kate. I did not care what I had to give up. She was going to be my number one. And she still is my number one. Never give up. You never know when love is right behind you.
