search and rescue

Not everyone can be a firefighter. They often get asked the question why do you run into a burning building while everyone is running out? What i would say is because that is someones business or home plus the memories.

We were in all our gear and it was 90 degrees outside. I was excited as the chief said firefighter down drills. But when it was my turn to “get trapped” i was a waterfall. But i went in and i put some of my head in a closet. Then they came in the house i was the last room they searched but when they walked in I heard “we’ll get you out brother we promise”. It was a total of about two minutes until I was out of the house. Engine 3 was at the fire pit practicing. Engine 4 was me and two other people. Now it was my turn to search. Me and andrew were searching the house together it was the last room we got him out. Then while we got water chief hide three dummies had all of us search for them so we masked up and went in. We got two of them out one was in the pantry and the second was in the living room.

Two down one to go. It was the last room in the house but the door was blocked. So I went back outside and grabbed a ladder. I put it up to the window and climbed through the 2x4 window. It was really hot it was like I was standing under a waterfall. I had to take a pike pole and move about three pounds of wood to be able to open the door. Then andrew got a back board. So we carried him down the stairs but he twisted his ankle so when we got outside I took him to engine 4 and looked at his ankle. He was fine. Then we started packing up the trucks then the pit…

chief lit a small fire in the pit for more training. I quickly hopped on engine 4 and went to the pit. Some people ran to the pit but most hopped on a truck. My truck engine 3 was first on scene so we were in charge of the call. I masked up and and went in to the pit with a 1 ¾ line. it was like being in a stove. Then I heared engine 4 pull up. Andrew was the first down from 4. he only had a hand line but it would work.

We got it under control but tom went to come down… and fell so me and andrew dropped our hoses and caught him before he was fried chicken. We got him to his feet and put out the inferno.

firefighting isn't just a job its a way of life. My dream is to become a new york city fireman or a baltimore fireman. Because I want to serve my community. Its about helping your neighbor when the smoke first starts. so next time you see a firefighter i hope you are are polite. and dont prank call them because it makes them not be able to go help someone really in need of help.
