Twas’ the first game day of the year, and that being said jitters were at an all time high. Our opponent was Waterford Mott, we all had the mindset that it would be a walk in the park. The school day went on and the butterflies started to multiply. My teammates and I gathered by the doors and  waited for the bus to arrive. Coach shouted  “let’s go!” And we all piled onto the bus. The bus ride was quiet, we all zoned into our phones and threw our headphones in our ears  that made the ride go by quick. We arrived and got out walking past other students that were giving us dirty looks and making dirty remarks. I whispered “wow real classy” and we erupted in laughter. We all slumped onto the bleachers and napped while the freshman team played. Patiently waiting for half time to come so we could go change and prepare for battle. And at last the horn went off we gathered our belongings, and headed to the locker room.

Trying to get focused, the team sat there in silence, waiting for the coaches to go over a few plays and give us our pre game speech. “Never underestimate any opponent that you have not faced” is one tip that Coach gave us  that we didn't really use. "Wolves pride on three! One, two, three, WOLVES PRIDE!" After we bring it up, and at last, it was game time. We trotted onto the court to warm up, eyeballing the other team, examining their skill level and who we would have to match up with. We lined up for the national anthem and the game tipped off. We were off to a good start, but that soon ended when we started jacking up three-pointers and air mailing many of them. I could hear Coach every time we made a mistake “Dammit!” he would loudly whisper to himself. We all were in shock by the fact that it was a close game, knowing we have the potential to blow out our opponent. By halftime we were only up a disappointing three points and we slowly jogged into the locker room preparing to be scolded for our lack of communication.

We came out motivated, but nothing seemed to be clicking yet. The chemistry seemed to be non-existent and we were scared at the fact that we could very well lose this game. The game continued to be close, one kid hit four threes and we just could not pull away. The end of the fourth quarter came and we were up by one. They came down the court and we made the silly mistake of fouling them by accident, and they knocked down both free throws putting us down by one. Coach called our final time out and had the play designed perfectly to give us a win, the only thing we had to do was run the play correctly, and hit the shot. We passed it in and Holmes dribbled it down the court and the play began to develop. Until someone messed up. With 2 seconds on the clock the ball ends up in Jacob Beck’s hands, approximately three feet behind the three-point line he has no other option, but to shoot. We watched the ball as it flew through the air, Swish. We exploded with excitement and the bench was cleared, I picked up Beck and we all celebrated the game winning shot. It was a feeling like no other, because well that was the last thing we expected to happen, being apart of it was electrifying and thinking about gives me the chills.

Even though we had won, it should not have come down to the last shot, but an ugly win is better than a good loss. “Celebrate tonight and come back tomorrow ready to fix the many mistakes we made today, bad win but hey, ill take it” Coach preached to us then we brang it up and went home. Out of all my years playing, this was the first time that my team hit a buzzer beater to win it. To this day I watch the video, and chills run through my body and the feeling comes back to one of the most intense, but exciting moments I've ever had in my sports career.
