The Story of My Long Time Overcoming

This was my very long time of overcoming, When I was about 5 years old I was living a pretty good life though I had not lived for too long. My parents used to argue a lot but they usually got over it by the next day or so. But one night she was really mad because recently she had been told that she would be fired if she did not work any harder than she already did but that was a problem because she normally worked really hard with what she did. She almost worked so hard in a way like the slaves did so the next day she quit her job and that day she came home she was really happy with herself but someone who wasn’t was my dad. My mom came in the door and told me to go to my room, So I did but I put my ear up against the door.

“I quit my job today, I think I might stay home with Devy for a little bit of time.” My mom said to my dad.

Dad replied “How are we supposed to make money now, We don’t have that good of money now but now what are we gonna do?”

My mom said “I don’t know, But they didn’t appreciate what I did and what it seems like is happening now you don’t either.”

Then I heard the sound of a clap and then heard my mother sobbing, I heard the door slam and ran downstairs to see my mom’s face red and her crying.

I asked “What happened momma?”

She replied by saying “Oh nothing I just hurt myself trying to cook dinner, Hey why don’t you go upstairs and do some homework?”

I didn’t have any homework that night but I abided by her rules and went upstairs and played on my Xbox. My dad didn’t end up coming home that night and didn’t actually come home for a good 3 days. When he finally came home I ran over and gave him a big hug but he just shrugged me off. I asked him if he wanted to play some xbox with me and he simply replied with a

“No”

After that I went off to school because he came back in the morning, I had a good day at school except for the normal bullying that went on. When I came home from school I had a good day, My mom was the only one home besides my little dog named Milo, When I came home I asked my mother about where my dad was. She said she didn’t know but then I reminded her to be happy because tomorrow was her birthday. It was about 6:00 at night and I just played xbox until my 8:45 bedtime. Tomorrow was Saturday. I went to bed and I slept pretty good that night. Tomorrow was my Mom’s big day. I woke up to the smell of bacon and I ran downstairs and found my dad sitting at the table drinking coffee. After we ate breakfast me and my mom played xbox until around 11:30 and then we started to drive to my grandparent’s house. We had to drive through the hood to get there though and this is where we had a problem. We were driving down Elm St in New Haven and there were 2 hoodlums in the middle of the street walking as slow as they possibly could, My dad was angry and he stepped out of the car, He then said

“Hey could you two retard saggers get out of the damn road, You're blocking the whole f***ing street”

Then I heard my ears pop and also heard what sounded a lot like two planes colliding, I then saw a splatter of what I though was ketchup on the windshield and saw my dad fall asleep down to the ground, I then got scared and the two hoodlums ran away, I now think to myself every single day and think to myself that he left me for a reason, But I couldn't prevent that reason because he was shot, and was killed and I now everyday think that I have no dad and it was my fault. My mom always says to me that it was her fault if anyone's for setting up a party at my grandparents house but that never makes me feel any better.

This piece is very special to me and I wish to anyone that reads it not to feel bad but to feel that he is in a good place now and that I have not gotten over it yet but go to a therapist to talk about it
