The Nightmare
It was the blackest night of my life. We were driving through the streets at an unearthly hour. It seemed as if we were left alone in a forest and had to find our way back home. It was dark as the clouds had kept the moon their prisoner. The windows of our car were down and I was enjoying the light breeze which felt like a zephyr in the quiet night. Hunger made us stop at a roadside cafe. As I stepped out I realized by the quietness of the night that we were the only souls awake at that time. A loud shattering noise scattered my thoughts. I turned my head towards its source. A trailer was backing into the driver’s side of our car with my dad at the wheel. It broke our windshield and almost crushed one side of our car. The lights of the trailer flashed in my eyes. By the time I could assimilate my thoughts about the incident, the trailer had vanished. Where was my dad? Was he fine? What about my brother? Time stood still and my heart raced. I yearned for the moonlight.
