The great Leaf Blower Disaster!
“Come one, Come ALL! Let me tell you the story about my favorite mistake. If I remember this correctly this was in the peak of Covid-19, 2020 where kids were at home doing school because it was too dangerous for people to go in person to go to school. Something along that journey gave me a life lesson and a scare of a lifetime. All questions will be answered soon enough…”
On one good day, my brother and I were at home doing some work for school when our 1st class was over. When it was over our mom left to go run some errands but also to get us some food. It was what felt like a typical day for me and my brother because at this point we’ve been in distance learning for a couple months now and I hate it while my brother is LOVING it!
So my brother and I got done with our first class and my mom just left and now my brother and I are just chilling out in our rooms. About thirty minutes later, I heard something outside so what any curious fourteen kid did? I looked outside to see a guy at my neighbors house blowing leaves off his lawn. I thought really nothing of it and went back to watching tv.
Not even 15 minutes later I get a knock on my door and I see the guy I saw at my neighbors house at my front door. He started to say to me “Hello there. I was wondering if you wanted me to blow the grass off of your lawn for you for a couple bucks?” I looked at him and said “give me a quick minute and i'll get back to you on that.”
When this happened I called my mom to see what she wanted me to do. She said to not do it and to not give him money. If you know the teenage mind it tends to not listen to something or things. So what did I do you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. I didn't listen to my mom and decided to give this guy some money to blow leaves off of my lawn and bag them up. Little did my 14 year old brain know that he did not bag up the leaves and he ended up leaving the leaves with bags over them. That's how I learned the hard way to get scammed.
After this happened I was so scared because of what would happen when my mom got home and saw this mess in our front yard. So I did what any panicking teenager would do. I went and got my brother. We spent all of our time cleaning as much up as we could before my mom got home but alas, she got home. When she got home she saw me and my brother in the bike lane cleaning up leaves and not to mention the leaves were COVERING A CAR! She was frustrated because I didn't listen but she wasn't mad because she wanted the leaves to be cleaned up as a weekend project.I was saying to my mom I'm sorry non-stop. I felt like I would be in so much trouble because of what I did but no I wasn't in that much trouble. So at the end we spent two to three hours cleaning up the leaves with our neighbor who also got scammed. Although that came out of the day, Karma came in and struck. We saw the same guy while we were cleaning the leaves because he had lost his wallet. He was asking us about it and we said we didn't know. I guess it's true what they say, “karma comes back to bite you in the *ss”.
In conclusion, I could say the life lesson I learned from this was to never trust strangers and to never go behind my parents back because it can go south really quick. But was this the end of the mistakes? Of course not but those stories are for another time, in another place….

this is a story based on my experiences and it shows that not everybody is perfect but people can learn from their mistakes. especially those mistakes that you favor.
