Failure is always an option.

When you think about making a difference, you think about making a difference in the world right? Well what about making a difference in you, huh? Let me tell you a story of how I made a difference in myself.

It was a hard day. I'm not quite sure which hard day, there have been too many. I was done. I wanted the day to end so I could start over. But it was nowhere near done.

In my room my throat hurt from screaming. My cheeks were wet with tears from crying. I tend to overreact to things, so this was normal. At the moment, I was quiet. That's when I heard the footsteps getting closer. Mom came into my room and said, "Are you ready to talk?"

I glared at her and said yes. We went through what had happened, mom asking me if I thought that I had overreacted. Every time she asked, I would fiercely say no. All the time she has to be right. I thought.

"What are you really upset about?" She looked at me, a curious look plastered on her face.

"I don't know." Was my answer.

She asked me to take a minute and think. I knew what I was upset about, I just didn't want to tell her. She'll think it's ridiculous. Was what I thought. I told her anyway.

"You just took the first step, admitting what you are upset about. Now what can you do about it?"

  Again, "I don't know."

  "Try."

Such a simple word, try. Yet it means so much.

That day I did not end up trying. But that doesn't mean that I didn't take the first small step up the stairs in making a difference in me.
