Last night I dreamt of chaos. Not chaos like the discovery of the Lochness Monster. Nor the rainy and damp obliteration of tropical storms. Nor the government’s Laissez-faire approach within the Great Depression. Nor the battle against the colonists and King George III. It was the chaos of today. The chaos of Assimilation.

Last night I dreamt that I woke up to “No More Parties in LA” by Kanye West. I put on my Periwinkle Lulu Scuba, black leggings, and white Nike 270s like three trillion other teenage girls. I said “bonjourno” to my chien, prepared my large iced white chocolate mocha and avocado toast, then scoured instagram for the latest tea on my celebrity crush Pete Davidson. I checked all of my DMs, which ranged from the usual “your hair is so pretty when it’s long” to a more infrequent “you’re a literal blobfish.” Ouch! Of course David would say that. “De rien” I responded, as if saying it in french meant I was somehow superior to him. “He’s a munch anyways” I mumbled. Then I left to go to my class on business law.

Each and every day flowed like the Nile River. While I may have chosen a different Kanye song, or a different colored Scuba, my life still went in the same direction. I would always wear basic clothes. I would always value fad foods. I would always scroll through social media. This river’s current was harsh. Trying to choose a different path was pure chaos, forcing me to go along with every wave, to assimilate to each and every other person so we could all flow in one direction.
