My name means defender of people. It means protector. A peach color, sea shore or a sunset, warm places like Florida. A dark morning until the sun comes out and shines into the kitchen, while making waffles.
My mother. She is a hero to me. She named me Alexandra Elizabeth. Elizabeth was given to me by her. It’s her name. She simply wanted me to have it because she loved the sound of her name. She took care of me my entire life. Alexandra Elizabeth. The name I will love forever because both my parents gave to me, the only true thing I have from both of them. Now I get to carry my mom’s name on and the legacy she gave me. A mother is the best legacy to carry.
I love my name. I choose to carry it out every day of the rest of my life. My name is special to me because I want to be a lawyer which is the perfect name for a lawyer because it means to defend. It makes me feel stronger than I think I am.
My name, I like to think, my mom gave me the name because she was my first defender. She gave me affection and guided me with support. The name Alexandra Elizabeth is the personal connection between me and my mother. It is the reflection of the hopes and dreams she had even before I was born. My mother gave me a purpose and identity, I am forever grateful for. My mother is funny, smart, and warmhearted. She has an amazing way with words, always knows what to say to me when I am feeling down.
My mom has always helped me in every way. For example, in 2019, I broke my femur and two places in my pelvis. It was really scary. She held my hand the entire time. I had a long recovery after the four-hour surgery. Even when I was still sleeping and waiting for the medicine to wear off, I knew my mom was right beside me, waiting for me to wake up. When I woke up, she was right there. Next to me in a chair. She pushed me to work hard to get better. She made my recovery possible. When I was close to giving up, she gave me enough strength to keep going. My mother makes the world a better place, she makes me feel like I can do anything. She is my strength to keep going in any situation.
I love my name because it is the constant reminder of the extraordinary woman, my mom, who gave me this name. I will continue to live the life she filled for me and always have her in my heart.
