One Sentence Is All It Takes
People tend to struggle with addiction problems, and sometimes it can really lead them down a rabbit hole of bad decisions. Addictions such as: Alcohol addictions and smoking/vaping addictions are just some addictions that can lead to bad decisions. And some people want to stop, but they don't know how to, and there is not too much they can do alone that can help themselves get over, sometimes they have to pay for a therapist that sometimes doesn't even work, or sometimes they have to hide it so that people wont shame them for it, and I hate that, I hate the fact that some people have to struggle alone with nobody to help them, that is why when somebody I know or am even friends with is struggling with those problems, I try to be the help they need, and recently, I achieved that.
About 2 months ago. I was just on my playstation waiting for 1 of my friends to get on because we were gonna play games together, he got on and we started playing games cause why not, but while playing, I kept hearing this noise coming through his mic.
“Dude, I just have to ask, what is that noise?” I asked
“My vape,” he told me.
“You do know that it kills you, right?” I told him
“I'll be fine” he said
“Can you please quit though, I don't want to lose you man” I told him
“We’ll see” He said
I get off the game and go to bed thinking about my friend hoping that he will be ok. The next game comes around, and I get on my playstation just kind of playing whatever game I was playing, and then I get a party invite from the same friend that I was talking to last night to. I join the party
“How are you doing man?” I asked
“I stopped” He said
“What do you mean by that?” I said
“I quit vaping” he said
“Wow, really?” I said
“Yep” He said
“How?” I asked
“I was at work that night thinking about what you said, at the end of my shift, leaving work, I saw a trash can, thought about it, took one last hit and then threw it away” He said
“Good man, and listen, if you ever think about thinking about vaping again, talk to me alright?” I said
“Ok man, I will” He said
After hearing that, I was really relieved and we went back to playing games. But that is an example of how one sentence can make a whole difference. That also means don't be afraid of what you want to say, because what you can say might help someone in the future.
