Surgery Changed Me

I walk slowly into Riley’s children hospital nervous as my stomach turns into one million knots. Realizing that today will be last day I’ll be considers normal. I walk in shiny dark green elevators trying not to burst out in tears. The happy colors on the walls fill the room with a little of happiness. I sit near sharp needles thinking about how different my life would be. My mom helps me tie the ugly baby blue surgery clothes. I wait with hundred stabs in my stomach for all the doctors to tell me how long surgery would take, the problems I might get. I get more nervous and scared as they say how many tools they’ll use and the risk of this surgery. My voice gets screechy saying “I’m ready”.  My dad comes along with my brother to come in to give me my last hug. I burst out in tears when my parents tell me that they “love me and they’ll be by my side when I wake up” I start to cry even more as my doctor comes in and tells me, “That everything is all set”. I’m laying on an uncomfortable surgery bed, with cold sticky wires on my hands, legs, chest, as well as my arms. The aroma of watermelon goes up my nose, falling deeply asleep, hearing the voices of the doctors saying “we’re ready”.
