Molly
When my parents told me we were getting a new kitten, I was skeptical at first, and for good reason. With the sting of so many recent pet-related tragedies in our family, I logically didn't want any more heartbreak. Of course, that came before I met Molly.
I remember that fateful day like it was yesterday, although that might be because it was only about two weeks ago. I had asked my grandmother to take me to shop for fall dress shirts earlier that day. Around one hour before we agreed to leave, my dad called for me from downstairs, telling me to clean the house, This isn't usually one of my chores, so I asked hiom why he wanted the house clean all of a sudden. He replied that he would be leaving to go get the kitten.
I cleaned up the house quickly, and went back to watching YouTube videos in my room. 15 minutes later or so, I heard my dad's truck outside. As he came in from the rain, I heard a soft mew from downstairs. I raced downstairs to see the little thing, somewhat surprised by the immediate vocalization. She was a fairly small, gray and white tabby cat, and was initially very skittishm running to hide behind the sofa.
I realized I wasn't going to be able to pry her out any time soon, so I went back to my room. Realizing it was about time to leave, I called my grandmother on my cell phone and asked her if she would come to pick me up. She said she was about to call anyway, and asked why I had decided to call her. I replied "U was afraid the ringing might scare the cat." She laughed and, since the rain had stopped for the moment, asked me if I would mind walking to her house. I agreed, it only being a few minutes away, and walked over.
Three 75%-off dress shirts and a fedora later, we returned. As she was dropping me off at my house, I asked "Mom Mom" if she wanted to come in and see the kitten. It was getting late at this point, though, and she told me that she knew she would see the dear little girl eventually. As I walked in, little Molly met me at the door, having had a little time to adjust. I still remember petting her soft, warm fur for the first time, she adoring the attention, and immediaely knowing that she would be a wonderful addition to our family.
