Cup of Tea
“Nobody’s everybody’s favorite so you might as well just make it how you please.” Cup of Tea is a song by Kasey Musgraves that says a lot about being who you are. The whole idea of the song is to tell people to not worry about what everybody is going to think. I find this song very inspirational.
This song has inspired me to be a more carefree and outgoing person. I used to be very self conscious about everything. I was always afraid of people disliking me. The first time I heard this song, I immediately replayed it again. “Maybe your jacket is a hand me down.” These lyrics made me stop and think to myself. Does it really truly matter if some people dislike you? I guess it really doesn’t. “Cause you can’t be, everybody’s cup of tea.” I thought about it for quite awhile. The more I heard the song, the more carefree I became about everyone liking me. I know that I will have friends, but I absolutely do not need to stress about everybody else. I realized I needed to relax, be myself, and people will accept me the way that I am.
“Life is too short to worry about what others say or think about you. Have fun and give them something to talk about.” I like this quote because it puts it all into perspective. Enjoy life. Being intimidated by people’s opinion only makes you feel miserable. So why not have fun? Be yourself. This might be out of your comfort zone. It was out of mine! Once you try it though, it’s pretty easy. It makes you feel entirely different. In a good way!
My favorite part of the lyrics in this song is when it says, “Some like it bitter, some like it sweet.” I love these lyrics because I feel like you have the right to be you! Maybe you have a competitive attitude. Some people may not like it and others love that characteristic. Maybe you’re a sweet caring person, and a lot of people like you. That’s okay too. If a lot of people like you fine. If only some do, cool. But don’t try to make everyone like you. Just be you.
On October 14th, I met a professional barrel racer and a motivational speaker. Her name is Amberley Snyder. About eight years ago, she got into a car accident and became paralyzed from the waist down. She still barrel races at a professional level even though she is paralyzed. The road to recovery was very long. Not only was she paralyzed, but she also broke her back. Doctors told her she would never ride a horse or rodeo again. They told Amberley to pick another hobby. But rodeo and horses are her life. She said she would definitely ride again and she’d never give up on it. Amberley isn’t completely paralyzed though, she can feel some muscles in her legs below her knee. She has her mindset that she will walk again some day. I believe in her. She has done a number of things that people have told her she would never do again. In her wheelchair, she can saddle her own horse, load her own horse in a trailer, lift herself onto her horse by herself, and also lift herself into her car or truck. She mentioned some things that really related to “Cup of Tea.” Amberley told the group that you cannot compare your life to anybody else’s. Yours is completely different. She also says you are your own limit. If you set goals and believe in yourself, you can achieve anything. If you think you can’t do it and don’t try, then you won’t. You can do anything you put your mind too.
Remember, you can do anything you put your mind to. Never give up on your dreams. Also, don’t worry about what others think, follow your dreams and accept the fact that not everyone has to be your friend. “Cause you can’t be, everybody’s cup of tea. Why would you wanna be?”
