Dear Past Self,

You don’t know it yet but your first year of high school is going to be one to remember, and it’s all going to start with making the freshman basketball team. Unbreakable bonds are going to be formed with your teammates which makes you realize you will never be alone on your journey through high school.

The bonds are going to start forming during the end of September through the beginning of October. During those weeks you are going to be going through some of the toughest days of the year. Three times a week for six weeks you are going to have to go to conditioning. Conditioning is workouts which prepare for the tough season ahead of you. The people who you go through conditioning with are the people who you have the most respect for because you know they are working just as hard as you toward a common goal.

Once tryouts conclude, you will have your first practice the very next day. It’s going to be a tough adjustment because practices are going to be every day at 6:30am, this is going to force you to go to bed earlier. However, you will find that this is a positive since you will always be free after school.

The season is going to be a blur. One moment you are 3-0 and the next you are 3-5, and on a five game losing streak. When it’s all said and done, you and your team are going to finish 7-9, which may not sound impressive but is the best record for a Chattahoochee freshman team.

Once the season concludes, you will be left wanting more. You are going to want to play just one more game or hit just one more jump shot. It’s going to be ok though because you know that there is still 3 more years of high school basketball for you.

Soon after the final game, there is going to be the banquet. He is where you are going to be awarded the “Coaches Award”. An overwhelming sense of pride is going to rush through your body as you feel all the eyes on you as you walk up to receive the award. As you walk back to your seat, you are going to glance at your teammates and you are appreciate all that they have done for you during your journey.

Love,

Your Future Self
