Well, you see, with that man in office, I’m oppressed.
Oppressed: adjective. To be subject to harsh, unfair treatment.
Let’s add something to that definition.
Oppressed: adjective. To be subjected to harsh, unfair treatment for reasons that are unable to be changed, or of beneficial choice.
Well look at that, Mr. Trump.
Because of you, I am oppressed.
After coming out to my family, hoping that they understand how being in the LGBT+ community isn’t a choice,
After realizing that, yes, my family supports those who are queer, but they won’t accept me as queer,
After having to closet myself from the the majority of people I see every day, because when you live in a tiny little town in a tiny little county and knowing that the majority of people who live here are homo/transphobic and that it wouldn’t be safe,
After having to build up the confidence to come out to these people anyway, despite not knowing how they’d all react, because I want to feel good about myself and be able to be the person that I am in my home town,
After dealing with the names, the names that I’m called that I’d rather not repeat,
After not knowing what to call myself when it comes to my name,
After having to deal with the self-esteem battle every single day because what I wear matters to me in the sense that I have to look the way that I feel (gender wise, that is) or I’ll feel like a lesser person,
After having to fight,
To fight,
TO FIGHT,
T O F I G H T,
T O F I G H T,
T O F I G H T,
For my RIGHTS as a HUMAN BEING,
And you think it’s okay to take that away from me?
I’ve had to pull myself through things that you, as a privileged white male who was born right into the upper class in America, just wouldn’t understand.
But, no, I’m not afraid.
I’m more empowered to fight for myself than I’ve ever been.
We are more empowered to fight for ourselves than we’ve ever been.
