Author's note:

I was inspired to write this book one day when my older brother told me that I should try out for the quarterback of our high school football team. Unlike Sammy in this book I disagreed to doing it, I love writing romance books.

Chapter 1
“Come on, Sammy. You have to try out for the team.” “I already told you, Mark. I am not trying out for the football team.” “At least tryout at the most please.” My oldest brother begged. I am Sam King, I have eight brothers, I live on a farm with them and my parents, and my family wants me to try out for the football team. The order of oldest to youngest is Mark, Tommy and Caleb are twins, Johnny, Darrell, Matt, George and Alan are twins, and then me. I'm the youngest in a family of eleven. I am sixteen, I have long feathered dirty blonde hair, tanned skin, and green eyes, and I'm five foot seven. George walked in the kitchen with his basketball in his hands. “Hey George.” “Hey Sammy, what has you guys arguing about in here this time?” “Sammy refuses to join the football team, again.” “Come on Sammy football isn't that bad. Or is it your too scared to get crushed by those guys.” George teased. I punched him in the shoulder with a smile on both of our faces. “Hey you know I'm kidding.” He put his arm around my shoulder and turned to look at Mark. “See this is one tough little baby sister of ours.” He said pointing at me. “I just don't feel like joining. Just because I play football with you guys out in the field doesn't mean that I want to do it for school.” “You don't want to do what for school?” The rest of my brothers walked in the kitchen from outside with some of their old football gear on. “Football conversation, again?” Alan asked. “Just join, Sammy.” They all started talking and saying that I should join. “Alright! I'll try out but that's it.” “And you have to really do your best.” “Deal. I'll do it after school tomorrow when they have practice.” All my brothers cheered and started shouting in excitement.
I didn't remember anything else from that day. The next thing I knew I was walking out to the football field the next day during the guys practice after school. I walked out to the field when the coach huddled the team up. I took a deep breath just before I made it to them. “Coach?” “Yeah?” “I need to talk to you.” “Okay what is it?” “Well my brothers pressured me into finally trying out for the football team. And so now I'm here to try out.” I said looking around at all the players who were eyeing me. “Listen girly how about you go back to cheerleading, I doubt that you would want to break one of your perfect nails, right?” “I'm not a cheerleader.” “Trust me girls don't belong to be playing boys football. Okay?” “Hold on now guys, let's give her a shot, alright?” They nodded in agreement before the coach looked at me. “Your Mark King's sister aren't you?” “Yes. I am his only sister but then we have seven other brothers and they all were in football too.” “Okay let's see how you do with throwing.” He said as he handed me a football. “Rivers go long.” I turned my head to see a blonde haired boy on the other side of the field talking to some guys that were on the baseball team. He turned to us and smiled when he saw me before he nodded his head and ran down the field and put his helmet back on. “Go down to the end zone!” I yelled out to him. I turned around and walked further down the opposite side of the field. When I got to the other end zone I turned around and got my angle just right before I launched the ball as far as I could. Rivers ran for the ball and it went through the field goal. The guys were all staring at me in amazement. “Coach what's next?” I asked putting my hands on my hips. “Kicking.” Rivers got everything ready. I went to my position before running up to the ball and kicking it asfar and hard as I could. It went right through the field goal. “Try going back further, Rivers.” We backed up with another football ready and I kicked the ball again making it go right through the field goal.

“Is that good enough now?” I yelled out to the coach. “Hold on, how do you do with running and tackling?” He yelled back. “I don't know why don't you ask the track coach how I do and my brothers about tackling.” “Let's give you a test run.” “Rivers go get her some padding and a helmet.” “Yes coach.” He quickly ran off and brought some gear back I put the padding on and I took the helmet over to my gym bag. I pulled out my cleats and put them on. I slid the helmet on still holding it up so that I could put my mouth gear in and when I was finished I ran back out to the field ready for what was coming to me. “Here try to sprint past Rivers without getting tackled and then we will see how you do with tackling.” Coach said as he gave me a ball. I jogged out to the field to get ready. “And go.” I sprinted as fast as I could to the end zone. Rivers came at me from the side and tried tackling me. I ducked and kept running as I ran right through the end zone. I took off my helmet and put my mouth guard inside of it. “Football Princess.” I could hear Rivers whisper, he had also taken his helmet and mouthguard off. I smiled and grabbed his hand helping him up off the ground. “Thanks.” “Um, no problem.” “Where did you learn to do all that?” “I live on a farm with eight brothers, I am always helping with the hay baling and I help them practice for football. I think I just picked up a few things, I guess.” I smiled and bit my lip as I noticed how good looking he was. He has light blue eyes, dimples, short blonde hair, and he is really muscular. “Um, so why does the coach make you do so much?” “He is my coach and also my dad. He works me harder than anyone on the team because he's always telling me if you aren't the best than you aren't anything.” “And he wants you to be something.” I finished for him. “Yeah.” He said with a smile, revealing his pearly white teeth, as he stared into my eyes. We heard a whistle blow and we both turned to look at the coach.
“Come on over here, we still have work to do.” He shouted to us. We both started walking over. “My name is Luke.” “I'm Sam, all though my family calls me Sammy.” He stuck his hand out for me to shake and I shook it with a smile. “Sammy King… has a nice ring to it.” He said with a cute smile. The coach blew his whistle again and Luke began to jog over to him. I slowly jogged behind him. When we finally made it over, coach pointed out for Luke to get another ball. “Coach wouldn't it be easier if we just used the same ball that I did for running?” I asked him. He smiled stupidly, and kept going “tsk”. Then he paused before answering. “Yeah I guess so, good football player and a smart girl.” He finally said. I smiled as he patted me on the back and told me to get out to the field. “Rivers she is going to try to tackle you, now. Get out there.” He said. As I walked past Luke I handed him the ball with a smile. We switched the positions we were in and we both put our mouth gear and helmets back on. I got ready in position to tackle him. “Go.” The coach yelled, Luke began to run and I ran after him. I cut around in front of him and tackled him to the ground. I stood up and helped him up again. “I guess we're even now.” He said with a smile. “What do you mean we're even?” I asked him. He took his helmet and mouth gear off slowly, and I took mine off too. He turned to make sure no one from the team was looking at us and they were all huddled up talking to coach. He then quickly turned to me and kissed me on the cheek. When he backed away he was smiling at me. I smiled back shyly at him. “Yeah Iguess we are. Um I think we should go see what they're talking about now.” I said I quickly began to jog over to the team still thinking about what just happened.  “Coach, did I make the team or not?” I asked biting my lip. “Welcome new teammate.” A few of the guys said. “King, I think we might have you as our new quarterback.” “What, coach?” I turned to see a bigger guy standing there staring angrily and confused at coach. “Sorry Porky, your aim is weak. But this girl has the perfect aim and everything. Hey what's your name kid?” “Sam.” “Well Sam, what do you say?” “Um sure.” “Yes, that's great. Practice starts on Monday after school for you. We'll be in the weight room, be there.” I nodded my head with a smile. “Um does anyone know what time it is?” I asked. Coach looked at the watch on his wrist. “4:30.” “Okay well I gotta get going, bye everyone.” I waved and quickly took off my padding as I ran to put it away along with the helmet. I quickly grabbed my bag, tossed my shoes and my mouth guard in and ran. I ran all the way home, when I got there I tossed the bag on the front steps and ran to the barn.

When I got there my brothers were already carrying in some of the hay bails. “Hey Sammy, it's about time you made it. How did it go for the tryouts?” Mark asked. “Well they said I was really good and I should keep practicing… because practice starts on Monday after school.” I said with a smile. “Sammy that's awesome.” He cheered. “What's so awesome?” Matt came around the other side of the barn. “Sammy made the football team.” “No way!” All my brothers heard and were now cheering, I shrugged my shoulders and started cheering with them. We finished up with all of the hay and we instantly went out to the field to play some football. “Come here little Sammy, you need the practice.” “What are you talking about? I'm at least as good as all of you… if not better.” I said with a smile. “You're going down now.” Matt said. In the middle of our game our mom came outside calling my name. “There's someone here for you.” “Coming mom.” I turned to the guys and smiled. “To be continued.” I tossed them the ball and jogged to the house. “Who is it?” “It's a boy from the football team, he says his name is Luke.” “Luke?” I quickly fixed my hair and clothes before going to the door and opening it. “Hey, you can come in.” “Okay.” “So how did you find my house, exactly?” “Oh well it's called the King barn, so I may be thought that you would be here.” He said walking in. “Yeah um… no…  of course. So what are you doing here?” I said closing the door. “Um I came to ask you something.” “Okay, ask away.” “Well I wanted to let you know if you need any practice or… if you just needed anything you could just give me a call and I'll be there.” “Okay, thanks. Uh, well actually my brothers are all outside and we were playing some football if you wanted to join us, maybe? Of course if you have time, it's fine with me.” “Yeah sounds fun.” “Okay follow me then, I guess.” We both walked out to the field where my brothers were all playing. Mark caught the ball and was just about to throw it when he saw me. “Hey Sammy, who is this?” He said, all my brothers turned to look at me when they all stopped and stared at Luke.
“This is Luke, he is a football player and the coach's son.” I pointed to each of them as I said their names. “Mark, Alan, Tommy, Caleb, George, Matt, Darrell, and Johnny.” I said with a worried smile, I was worried that they were going to chew him up and spit him out thinking that we were more than friends. “Sam said it would be alright if I joined you guys.” “Sorry pal, not enough room.” Mark said with a cold glare. “Uh he can take Marks spot in the game, right?” I asked with a fake smile. “Yeah sure he can.” Mark said. He walked to Luke and slammed theball into Luke's chest as he walked past us. Just then our mom came out with glasses of lemonade. “Who wants lemonade?” “The guys all walked to my mom, I was about to go over when Mark pulled me aside. “I don't like that boy.” “What, why?” I said looking at Luke. “He's the coach's son and a football player. Let me guess he's also really popular?” “Yes he is, but he's my friend so watch the attitude.” I turned and walked away grabbing a glass from my mom. “Thanks mom.” She gave me a kiss on the cheek and set the lemonade down on the picnic table we had sitting at the side of the field. “No problem sweetie. You have fun, who wants to come grocery shopping with me?” “I will.” I turned around to see Alan, George, and Matt walking over to my mom and they went to the house with her. “Well looks like we do have enough players now, so let's get going.” Mark said grabbing the ball again. “Actually I think that Luke has to get going.” I said grabbing Luke's arm and pulling him to the house. “Hey come on, I was going to play the game with them.” “Trust me, right now I think I'm saving your life. Come on.” I said pulling away from my brothers. We began to just walk to the other side of the huge field we had. “So your brothers are nice… and a little intense.” “Tell me about it. I have to live with them.” “I don't really think that Mark likes me too much, does he?” “No not really.” “Well it's a good thing that he's protective over you, or you could get your heart crushed otherwise.” “Trust me, if I even thought about dating someone they would find him and kill him.” “Yeah, so I guess that got rid of my other question I wanted to ask you.” “What did you want to ask me?” “Uh, well there's this party that a friend of mine is throwing for my birthday. And I was wondering if you wanted to come.” “I thought that the party thing would have probably been a surprise considering that it would have been a birthday party.” “Yeah well, by accident he sent an invitation to me.”

“Wow.” “Yeah, so will you be there?” “Uh sure, when is it?” “Friday. It's at my place, so if you wanted to swing by and check it out. That would be okay with me.” “Sure, I'll be there.” “I have to get going, so I'll see you there.” “Bye.” “Bye.” He said with a smile as he jogged to his car and drove off. It started getting cold outside so I began to walk back to the house and go to bed early. I got in the shower and brushed my teeth. I got dressed in a black cut off shirt and some spandex with a black sports bra and some long black Nike socks. I brushed my hair and tossed it into a high ponytail before going to my room and falling asleep.

Chapter 2
I woke up to my brothers all running in my room shouting. I sat up rubbing my eyes with a yawn. “Don't you guys ever knock?” I said getting up out of bed. “We could, but it wouldn't be as fun for us.” Alan said. I picked up one of my pillows off of my bed and threw it at him. “You jerk.” I replied. I walked past them all into the bathroom. We have three bathrooms in this house, one for my parents, one for my brothers, and one for me. That's one good thing about being in my family, I get my own bathroom while everyone else has to share. I turned the sink on and set my hands before splashing water in my face. I grabbed my towel off the rack and dried my face with it. “What do you guys want, anyways? You guys only come in here to wake me up if you want to tell me something or if you want something.” “It's nothing, we just came to wake you up for school.” I crossed my arms and looked at them. “Fine… we are going swimming this weekend at the lake.” “What?” “Yeah, but we thought you would be happier about it.” “No I'm happy about it but I promised a friend I would go to their birthday party on Friday.”
“Who is this friend that you made the promise to?” “It's Luke, but before you say anything shut up. There is no drinking or anything like that. He can't anyways, his dad is the coach, remember.” “Fine we’ll go swimming and pick you up after the party? But if I smell a hint of alcohol at that party Luke is dead. Got it?” Mark said. “Yes, thank you guys so much for understanding. Now get out, I need to get ready for school.” I opened the door and went to my closet, they left closing the door behind them. I grabbed a pair of ripped jeans, a black flannel shirt, and a black shirt with white printing going across spelling out Born to Play with a football on it. I grabbed my socks and black converse before getting in the shower, when I got out I brushed my teeth and got dressed. I went to my room and grabbed my brush and began brushing my hair. I threw my hair up in a high ponytail. I grabbed my mascara, eyeliner, and lipgloss before going back to the bathroom and doing my makeup. I grabbed my flannel shirt and tied it around my waist. I grabbed my backpack and put my books inside, I got my gym bag and tossed my clean gym clothes inside with my shoes and deodorant, with perfume. I heard my dad's truck horn and I looked out the window. I ran outside with all of my stuff and jumped in the front seat. “Thanks dad for giving me a ride. I really didn't want to ride the bus today.” I said as I began to buckle up. “Yep, ready?” I nodded my head and he began to drive off. When we got to the schoolparking lot I unbuckled and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Bye dad.” “Bye Sammy. I'll see you when you get home okay?” “Okay.” I got out of the truck and closed the door behind me before he drove off. I walked through the parking lot and in through the doors of the school. I walked to my locker and put in the combination before opening it and putting my bag in. I grabbed my books for chemistry class and I tossed my gym bag in. I closed the locker and put the lock back on. I turned to see Luke a few lockers away wearing his football letterman's jacket and he was talking to some of his friends.

I took a deep breath before beginning to walk in his direction. “Hey Luke.” I said with a smile as I walked past him. “Hey Sam. Oh coach wanted me to give you this.” He opened his locker and pulled out two jerseys. “These are your jerseys, the yellow one is for practice and the one with the yellow and tan are for games.” He closed his locker and handed them to me. “Thanks.” I smiled setting them down in between my books and beginning to walk off. “I'll see you later.” “Bye.” I waved and began to walk off to chemistry. I bit my lip looking down at the jerseys that Iwas carrying. “Hey.” I turned to see my best friend, Audrey, walking by my side. “Hey.” “So what's with the football jerseys and the smile, and were you just talking to Luke Rivers? The wide receiver and the coach's son from the football team.” “The football jerseys I made the team, the smile I'm happy about making the team, and yes I was talking to Luke.” “Okay I believe all of that except for the smile.” She grabbed my shoulders and stopped walking. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in swinging her hands around, she let the deep breath out and opened her eyes. “You have a crush on Luke.” She whisper shouted to me. “No I do not.” “Yes you do, and I think he might like you too.” “Yeah right, I mean a guy like him could never like someone like me.” “Hey, Sammy chill. I'll go ask him.” She turned and walked to him confidently. I tried pulling her back but she kept pulling away. Once she got to him she grabbed his arm and pulled him to the side. She began talking and I saw him smile and look over at me. He nodded his head still smiling, then he crossed his arms and asked something. She shook her head and he asked something else. “Oh god.” I said to myself. Audrey nodded her head and turned towards me smiling and walked over to me again. He turned away and walked back to his friends. “What happened?” I said as we both continued walking to class. “He likes you, he asked if you were dating anyone, I told him no and he asked if you like him.” “What did you say?” “I told him that you like him too.” “Audrey!” I whisper shouted at her. “What? You like him he likes you and he MIGHT end up asking you out.” I turned and saw Luke still smiling in my direction. I quickly turned back and kept walking with Audrey. “Walk faster.” I said as I gently pushed Audrey's arm. We quickly walked to class, when we entered the room we took our seats at our stations. We've been chemistry partners since fifth grade and we haven't changed it since then. “Why did we have to walk so quickly?” “Luke was still looking at me… and it felt a little awkward, I mean I never thought in a million years that anyone would like me… or even think about asking me out.” “You've been single your whole life, you need a little push to get you out there more and I just helped you out.”

I was about to speak when Mr. Lemmings walked in. “Silence, who is ready for today?” No one answered and he told us to put our lab coats and goggles on. We did as he said the whole class and we got assigned a new project. The bell rang and I packed up my books, before standing up and walking out with Audrey. We walked to my locker, I opened it and put my books inside before grabbing my gym bag and walking to Audrey's locker with her. “Okay so I was thinking after school we can go to the mall and get some stuff for Luke's party on Friday?” “You were invited to his party and you didn't tell me about it until now?” “Audrey, I would have told you but I've been so busy, and it was just last night.” “Last night? Was it at the tryouts or did he text you or what?” “Don't make a big deal about it but he came over to my house and we talked and hung out for a bit.” “Your brothers didn't scare him did they?” “They did a little but he didn't mind so much.” “Speaking of your brothers how is Matt doing?” “Good, he's been wondering the same about you.” “He has?” “Yep, why don't you two just go out already. You two have liked each other since we were in the third grade.” “Do you think after shopping I can come over?”“Sure maybe then he'll ask you out and you two will start making out.” “Shut up.” She said with a smile as she lightly pushed my shoulder. “Well you two already made out at three of the Christmas parties that we went to and you guys did that in front of everyone… and you two kissed when you both were standing under the mistletoe in front of everyone. Oh and don't forget how you two have been each other's Valentine since fifth grade.” She blushed as she grabbed her gym bag and a piece of gum popping it in her mouth. “You want a piece?” “No thanks, gym isn't exactly the right place to have gum. Especially with Mrs. Tarnac being the substitute today.” “She's substituting today?” I nodded my head. “Ugh I hate her, remember last year when she gave me detention for not doing enough push-ups for the push-up test? And then when she substitutes we always have to run laps around the outside of the  school. Does that woman not notice how big the school is. It makes me feel like we run a marathon.” “It practically is a marathon.” Audrey shut her locker and we both went to the gym and went into the girl's locker room. “So what do you think your going to wear for Luke's birthday party?” “You were invited to Luke's birthday party on Friday?” Audrey's kind of nerdy older sister came around the corner of the wall looking at me. “Hi Penny, and yes I did.” “You're so lucky. I hear it's going to be the best party of the year, at WestBrook High.” “Yeah it's supposed to be, I can get you two an invitation if you want.” “Could you, that would be so amazing.” “Sure it wouldn't be a problem but you two owe me, maybe you two could be the ones to pay for the outfit at the mall?” “Fine.” They both answered, I smiled before we began to get changed. I got dressed into my black and white shorts and black Nike tennis shoes with my neon green tank top. And we all began to walk out into the gym. I was still retying my hair into another high ponytail.

I tightened the ponytail and put my black Nike headband on. “Okay so what's the details on it? Are we going right after school to the mall and then going to your house or are you coming over?” Penny asked with a smile. “We're going to my house.” I said happily. I looked over at Mrs. Tarnac to see Luke handing her a small sheet of paper. She looked at it and handed it back to him. He went to the guys locker room and came back out dressed in his gym clothes. “What is he doing here?” I said. “I guess he's in our gym class now.” Audrey stated. He was searching around the gym ruffling his hair when his eyes landed on me, he smiled before he jogged his way over. He sat down next to where we were stretching. He began to stretch with us. “Hey Sam… and Sams friends.” “Hi.” They both smiled and waved. “My name is Audrey and this is my sister, Penny.” Audrey said with a smile. “Yeah you forgot to tell me your name when you came up to me in the hall earlier.” He quickly looked at me and smiled with a quick wink. “And everyone knows you, you know since you're on the football team and one of the most popular guys in school.” Penny said with a smile. “Oh I didn't know I was popular all of a sudden. I just like to think everyone is pretty much equal.” “Wow. Kind, funny, cute, and he isn't a labelset like most of the kids here. He's a keeper.” Audrey said with a smile. He smiled again and looked at me. “Sam, you okay. You aren't talking that much.” “Y- yeah, I-I'm fine. Everything's just fine.” I said with a fake smile. “Don't mind her she gets so serious when it comes to gym class. She loves being able to beat out everyone here, especially since we have laps today, and a bunch of physical tests.” Audrey said with a smile. “What tests are we having today?” He asked looking back at Audrey. “Push-up, sit-up, pacer, arm hang, and pull up.” I answered before Audrey could. “Wow, well now you have more competition Sam.” I looked at Luke who was looking atme. He smiled and winked, I smiled back this time. I stuck my hand out and shook his. “Well may the best win.” “I plan on it.” “Keep dreaming.” “You know what let's make this interesting.” “When I win I'll make something up at the end of class.” I said with a smile. “And if I win… you have to agree to go out on a date with me.” “You give a tough bargain but I except. Sounds fair enough to me.” We shook hands again and smiled. Mrs. Tarnac blew her whistle and we all began. We huddled up around her as she gave instructions.

“We will be doing physical tests today, if you can't handle them… too bad. Let's get started with the push-up test first. Everyone find a partner.” Audrey quickly ran to me and picked me as her partner. “Okay once you find your partner one of you will go and the other one will keep count just in case the machines don't get the score right. You're chest must touch the machine and it must beep before you go back up or it does not count. You go until you can't anymore.” Everyone got in position before she blew the whistle and we all started. After a while I turned to Luke who was right next to us as I kept doing my push-ups. “Are you going to give up yet, Luke?” I asked. “Nope.” “Good for you, you actually have somewhat of a shot at beating me.” I looked back down and kept going. I stopped when I got to two hundred and fifty push-ups. I got up to see that Luke and Penny had already switched places and Penny was going now. I smiled and whispered “Point Sam.” I switched places with Audrey as she started. When everyone was done with their pushups we all stood up and began the next test. The pacer test was my second favorite because I got an advantage of being in track unlike more than half the class,  and I’m a long distance and short distance runner. Luke and I were next to each other getting ready for Mrs. Tarnac to give instructions. “Okay the computer will be counting each round. You have to make it to the other side of the gym and your foot must cross the cones before the beep, if you don't that counts as a strike. Today I'm feeling generous so I'll make it two strikes that you get before you have to stop. You go until you can't anymore, when you can't go anymore then you walk out of the race and start doing jumping jacks over here along the wall.” She set the machine before it started the countdown. “3… 2… 1… go!” It said, the machine started out slow but each level it got faster and faster. A while later Audrey was out and she was cheering me on as she did her jumping jacks. I kept running and pumping my arms. Luke and I were the last ones left. “Come on Sam, you've got this.” Audrey cheered. Luke finally gave out and I kept going to beat my last score. When I finished my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. “657, not bad King. Not bad at all. You beat your brothers scores.” Mrs. Tarnac said. “Thank you, Mrs. Tarnac.” I said back still panting, practically gasping for air. “I hear you're the new quarterback for the football team.” “Yeah.” “Good for you, our first girl quarterback ever to go to this school.” “Thank you.” I said again. “Okay catch your breath, kid. Don't want you to pass out and need to get rushed to the hospital.” “No I'm fine, it's just more practice for track season.” I stood up and my heart was finally beating normally again and my breathing slowed down. “What's next?” I asked. “The pull up test. Let's go everyone.” We all went to the pull ups bars that were aligned on the wall. “You all know how to do pull-ups but just in case, you do the pull-ups until you can't go anymore. Two people can fit on one bar. Your chin must go above the bar without touching it. You all get ready now. When you're done you give the score to me like you do for the other tests.” We all went to a bar and I was right next to Luke. “Ready… begin.” We all began to do the pull-ups. Luke and I were the last ones again. My grip on the bar was loosening but I kept pushing through. My hand finally slipped and I finally dropped down and landed on my feet. “I win, Sammy.” “Yeah you finally beat me because of my hand slipping.” I said to Luke with a smile. He dropped down smiling. “Hey if it counts, it counts.” “Yeah whatever.” I replied back. He smiled walking past me, I smiled and bit my lip before turning around to look at Mrs. Tarnac. “Sit up test is next.” We all went over to the mats again and got in position. Luke beat me at the sit up test but I still beat all of my brothers scores. “What can I say? Abs of steel.” Luke said as he stood up when he finished and he began flexing. “Yeah well we’re tied, so let's just keep going, Rivers.” I said, I patted him on the stomach as I walked past him. The last test we had was the arm hang my favorite one. “Alright you all know what to do so let's just get going. You all have a partner who is going to time you.” Audrey and I were partners again. “Two of you fit on a bar so let's go.” Luke and I ended up on the same bar again. “Ready to lose, Rivers?” I asked with a smile. “I could ask you the same thing, King.” “Aww. That’s cute, you actually think I’m going to lose.” “I know your going to lose. Your cute and all but I’m still gonna crush you.” I chuckled. “You really think you can make me lose my focus, huh?” “I know you’ve lost something if you think I’m going to lose.” “Whatever.” I chuckled one last time.

We began and everyone in the class began to drop like flies. “Give up, Luke. I can see your arms starting to shake already. And then I can do this all day long.” I said as I cracked my neck. I took a deep breath in and let it out. The next thing I knew Luke's hands slipped and he dropped down onto his feet. “Yes, ugh, I win once again. Hahaha, bam. Oh wait I need my arms for a moment.” I dropped down and got up in Luke's face and did it instead. “Bam! Who's the winner.” “You are.” He said with a smile. “Yeah I am. Mrs. Tarnac, join me for a sec.” I said she came next to me and started dancing with me. “Wow you're not afraid to do anything, are you King?” “Nope not really.” I stopped dancing and the rest of the class began to go get changed. “Sad you lost?” “Yeah, I was really hoping I'd get that date with you, Sammy. So what did you win?” I paused for a moment to think about it. “You can pick me up at seven tomorrow night.” I said with a smile, without another word I went to the girls locker room and began to get dressed into my other clothes.
“So what was your prize?” “He's picking me up at my house tomorrow night at seven.” “Oh my god you are so lucky, we are going shopping for two dresses for you, now. One for the party and one for your date.” “What we never said anything about dresses.” “I did.” Audrey said with a smile. We finished getting dressed and we left and went to our next class. The rest of the day seemed like one huge blur until after school when we went to the mall. We took Penny's car because Audrey rode the bus this morning and I rode with my dad and I don't have my drivers test for another four weeks, and I don't have a car either way. When we got to the mall I told Audrey I'm picking the dress for the party and she can pick for my date.

I tried the dresses on and Penny and Audrey loved them, they didn't mind paying for them either, or the boots. “Wow, really expensive but totally worth it you look amazing in the outfits, Sammy.” Audrey said with a smile on her face.
As we went to the food court Penny spotted a cute guy and ditched us. Audrey and I went to the food court to see a mob of kids about our age surrounding someone. We went over to see a guy standing in the middle of the mob signing autographs and taking pictures. “New Episode coming out tomorrow night, don't miss it. Tomorrow nights the only night you'll be able to see me and the rest of the cast live.” The guy said with a smile as he made his way and stopped in front of Audrey and I. “Omg, you are Kyle Morgan from Vampires in Love.” Audrey said with an excited smile. “Yeah do you girls want an autograph?” “No we were just about to leave, so.” I said as I grabbed Audrey's arm and tried pulling her in my direction. Audrey pulled her arm back and turned to him. “Yes, oh my god. Can I get a picture too?” She said in excitement. “Sure, what's your name?” He said as he autographed her poster that she pulled out of her purse and unfolded. “You keep this with you all the time?” “My name is Audrey Shiffers, S-h-i-double f-e-r-s. And yes, I've heard about this next episode a month ago and I've been carrying this around with me just in case.” She said with a smile as he signed it. “Audrey, I'm leaving.” I said turning around ready to walk away. “No you're not.” She said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me back. “And what's your name?” He asked. “I don't need an autograph.” I said with a polite smile. “This is Sam King, first ever girl quarterback at our school,  track all star, amazing singer,  dancer,  actress,  songwriter, all around perfect, and most important my amazingly beautiful best friend.” Audrey grabbed me and pulled me in for a side hug with a smile. “Wow,  you have a lot going for you. And I guess I can’t deny the beautiful part.” He took the picture withAudrey and turned to me. “Every girl needs an autograph of some sort, here you go.” He said with a smile as he leaned in and gave me a kiss on the cheek. He smiled at both of us before turning and walking away with a wave. “Goodbye ladies.” He said still smiling. “I can't believe he just did that. Who does he think he is, Channing Tatum?” I said as I watched him walk away. “He is the uprising Channing Tatum. And he kissed you. You should be happy about that. You love Vampires in Love, what's up?” “Audrey, I loved Vampires in Love. Emphasis on the -ed. I'm not into that show any more, I hope you know it is just a show.” She gasped heavily looking disappointed at me. “Just a show? Who are you? Vampires in Love is a romance fiction TV show about a vampire falling in love with a regular mortal and they stop a guy from trying to destroy the rest of the vampires and they help others find true love. This next episode is the one where we get to find out if he bites her or not so that they can live together for the rest of all eternity.” “You read that off the back of one of the books didn't you?” I said crossing my arms. “Maybe but that's not the point. Sammy, this just isn't you. ” “Audrey, some things change and some stay the same. Remember my date tomorrow night with Luke? I don't have time to be wasting on “uprising” Channing Tatum.” “Okay let's just go shopping but I love the attitude about staying so committed to Luke. And by the way this conversation about something being wrong with you is not, I repeat not over.” She turned smiling about to go back to shopping. “Audrey, need food, about to starve. Food court, this way.” I said pointing in the opposite direction. “I knew that, I was just a little over excited.” She said turning around and walking the way I was pointing. I smiled and rolled my eyes as I began to walk in the direction of the food court.

Chapter 3
After we were done eating we went shopping again and found Penny. We all walked out of the mall with our new clothes and stacked them in piles in the back seat of Penny's car. As we drove back to my house we listened to music and sung along to the lyrics we knew. The lyrics we didn't know we just made up as we went along. When we got back to my house we all entered my room laughing and smiling as I put my bags filled with clothes in my closet and they set theirs on the floor around my bed. “That was so much fun. Sammy, I never knew that you would actually be into that sort of thing after that short while.” I smiled as we all began to walk back downstairs entering the kitchen. “Do you guys want an apple?” I asked as I made my way to the fridge. “No, I'm not hungry.” Audrey answered. “Sure.” Penny said with a smile. As I opened the fridge and pulled out a snack for Penny and I, we heard the door burst open and yelling from my brothers as they all entered. “That was an awesome game of football, can't believe you missed it, Sammy.” Matt cheered with a smile. Audrey turned to see him and smiled. “Hi Matt.” She said as she nervously twirled her hair with her finger. “Oh, h-hi Audrey.” He said as he stood up straight and ran his hand through his short brown hair. “How are you? It's been a while.” He said nervously kicking his feet at the floor. “Yeah, yeah it has.” She said again. “Oh come on why don't you two just make out and get it over with.” Johnny teased as he went behind Matt and slapped him on the back.
“How many times do we have to tell you guys? We're just friends.” Audrey said with a smile as she stepped closer to Matt. “Yeah, we’re just friends.” Matt said putting an arm around her. Audrey straightened her spine and took a deep breath in with a smile as she bit her lip looking slightly at the floor in the opposite  direction of Matt. “Sure… lovebirds.” George whistled at them as they both left the room going to the living room. I closed the fridge and punched George in the shoulder as I tossed Penny an apple and hopped up on the counter and took a bite of mine. “Will you guys just shut up about them already? They're obviously just too chicken to date each other, even though they're practically in love.” I yelled so they could hear me. The next thing I knew Audrey was still standing in the doorway with one of the couch cushions and she threw it at me. I laughed as I caught it and she went back to the living room and sat on the couch right next to Matt. “Hey, where did you guys go anyways?” George asked with a curious smile on his face. “We went shopping.” I replied as I took another bite out of my apple. “You went shopping? Now that sounds like something Audrey and Penny would do, but you?” “It's no big deal, alright?” I said nervously. “Well she has to look good for the party on Friday and her date tomorrow night.” Penny said with a smile. “Penny.” I whisper shouted at her as I threw the pillow at her. “What?” She said looking confused at me, I nodded my head in the direction of my brothers and she looked wide eyed at them as she sunk back down on the chair and took a bite of her apple. “You have a date?” Alan shouted. “I wouldn't exactly say it's a date more of hanging out with a boy.” I said trying to hide my face as I looked down about to take another bite of my apple. “Our little sister has her first date. Who is the boy?” “Luke.” I mumbled hoping they wouldn't hear me. “What?” Alan asked. “It's Luke.” I shouted feeling frustrated and mad. “Luke?!”My brothers all shouted in unison. “Nope you're canceling that date and taking the clothes back, no party on Friday either.” Matt said as he entered the kitchen again with Audrey following behind him.

“Matt.” I said as I turned to him and began begging. “Please?” I said making a puppy dog face at him. “No way.” He answered crossing his arms. “Audrey can you come over here for a second?” She nodded and walked to me. I leaned to whisper in her ear. “It's time.” “What? It's time? I don't think I can do it, Sammy. I love you and everything but I don't think I can do it.” “Please. All you have to do is flirt with him and ask if he can do just this one thing for you and he'll be hooked.” She bit her lip as she turned back to Matt before looking at me again and whispered. “Fine. I'll do it.” She said, she took three deep breaths before going back over to Matt. “Matt don't take this chance away from her. Please I already paid for her clothes and this will just be one date.” She begged at him. “Nope, no way am I letting my little sister go out with him.” “Please, do it for me?” She smiled and took his hand in hers and kissed his cheek and whispered something. He smiled and I could hear a small giggle come from her as he turned back and smiled. “S-Sammy you can go on the date.” “And the party?” “Just the date.” He said, Audrey whispered something else in his ear and smiled. “And the party. Y-you can go to the party too.” “Yes.” I said to myself. “I swear nothing will happen to me. And if anything does I'll bring a taser with me.” I joked. “Audrey are you going to the party too?” Matt asked. “Yes, I am.” She said with a smile. “Do you guys think that I can skip swimming and go to the party?” Matt asked the rest of our brothers. “Yeah whatever, more food for us that means.” Mark said pulling Matt into a headlock and ruffling his hair. “Hey man, watch the hair. Alright?” Mark let go of Matt and as he began fixing his hair Audrey pulled his arm and they went up the stairs. And we all heard Matt's bedroom door clothes. “Oh my god, those two are so weird.” Johnny said opening up the fridge. “And you aren't? Last year you dated Melanie Hotschwip and she is the worst person ever.” I said. “Point taken, hey but when we dated I was imagining that she was Melanie Martinez the entire time.” He said with a smile as he closed the refrigerator door and went outside while everyone else laughed. “Well we have to go figure out what we are going to do with Sammys hair and what we're going to do for makeup.” Penny said grabbing my apple and throwing it away with hers as she grabbed my arm and pulled me to my room.
We closed the door and went right to my makeup mirror. “Okay so I was thinking that we'd do something simple with your hair like maybe… curling it? And then with your makeup something light and not too heavy. Mascara, eyeliner, lip gloss, some blush, I'll do your nails.” “Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad to me.” I answered while looking at myself in the mirror as Penny brushed her fingers through my hair. “Okay good. And for the party we'll leave your hair down, no ponytails.” “What? Please just for five minutes.” “Nope no ponytails.” She answered looking at me through the mirror. “Sammy you are so pretty, I can't believe that you've been single all your life.” “Well have you met my brothers?” We both started laughing as we played some music and started doing my makeup to see how it would look with the dress. When we were finished I sat back down at the mirror and looked at myself. “Oh my god, Penny you are a miracle worker.” I said brushing through some of my hair with my fingers. “There wasn't that much to do. Like I said you're already really pretty. You're going to break a lot of hearts at theparty and out on your date. I bet every guy around will be watching you, and you only.” I rolled my eyes and laughed. “What's so funny, I'm serious. I would kill to be as pretty as you.” “Trust me if anything you are a lot prettier than me.” “Yeah you're right, my matching braces and glasses pulls the entire nerdy geek girl look off.” “Trust me you are gorgeous… and as a confidence booster I'm giving you a makeover.” I got up and sat her down in the chair as I grabbed the makeup and took her glasses off. “Sam what are you doing? I can't see without those.” “With contacts you can. My mom has some hidden in my parents bedroom. I'll be right back, stay put.” I said as I jogged out of the room and straight to my parents room. I went into my mom's shoe closet and pulled out a pair of heels with the container of contacts she kept inside the box. I put the box back and went back to my room. When I walked in Penny was still sitting in the chair waiting for me. I quickly put the contacts in her eyes and began to do her makeup. I did mascara, eyeliner, concealer, I did her nails, and some lip gloss. When I was done I took her to my bathroom and went inside of the drawer pulling out hair dye. “You're going to dye my hair?” “Calm down it's just for some cute lowlights and a small trim.” “Sammy?!” “It's fine how do you think I got my hair done, my parents still think I went to the mall to do it.” I sat her down and first I started trimming her hair, I trimmed off some of the uneven ends and then I went right to giving her the lowlights. I gave her caramel lowlights and I curled her hair. When I was done I went into the cabinet again and pulled out some teeth whitening strips and a white napkin. “Here hold this up to your teeth.” I said handing her the napkin. She did as I said and looked at her teeth in the mirror like she was disappointed. “You're teeth are just a little yellow but don't worry, we can fix that.” I said as I handed her the whitening strips and she carefully put them in. When she turned back to the mirror she smiled. “Better?” I asked with a smile. “Better.” She said as she turned to me.“Okay now let's work on your clothes options.” I said dragging her back to my bedroom. I went into her shopping bag and pulled out a really nice dress.

I handed it to her along with the heels and told her to go change. She went back to my bathroom and when she came back she was wearing the dress and the heels. I went to my closet and pulled out a little gold bracelet and handed it to her. She slid it on her wrist and smiled looking in the makeup mirror. “Sam I think you are the miracle worker.” She said turning and smiling at me. “Now to ask for my brothers opinions.” I said grabbing her arm and walking her to the top of the staircase and walking down with her into the kitchen. “Hey guys.” My brothers all turned to us and when they saw Penny they all seemed to get nervous. “Woah.” George said looking Penny up and down. “Hey Sammy, w-w-who's your friend?” Alan said with a smile. I turned to Penny and we both laughed. “Guys I would like to introduce you to… Penny.” They all looked at us wide eyed. “Penny?” They said surprised. “Hey guys.” She smiled and gave them all a small wave. “Wow Penny. Y-you look great.” Alan said ruffling his hair and taking a few steps closer. “Yeah.” George said smiling. “Thanks.” She said with a shy smile. “This is my latest project.” I said with a proud smile. “You did this to Penny? I didn't even know that you knew how to use a mascara brush.” George said playfully. “Yeah well Penny needed a confidence boost since she happened to think she looked so nerdy.” I said sarcastically saying to her. “I thought that your “nerdiness” was kind of cute.” Alan said with a shy smile. “You did?” She asked looking up at him with her smile getting brighter. “Yeah.” He said nodding his head with a smile. She grabbed some strands of her hair and twirled it nervously.
“Well I thought it was cuter.” George said teasingly. “No you didn't, George, so be quiet.” I said punching him in the arm. He smiled and finally stopped making fun of them. “Uh well, I think we should give these two a little privacy so they can talk.” I said opening the door and escorting allof my other brothers out of the house. “Have fun you two.” I said with a devilish smile as I closed the door and exited the house with them. “What are you up to, Sammy?” Mark said with the same devilish smile on his face that I had on mine. “I may be playing matchmaker today.” I said as I ducked down and put my ear against the door. “So Penny…” Alan said nervously. “Yeah?” She answered a little excitedly. “I was wondering if you would maybe want to go out sometime with me?” “Sure I would love to.” She answered with a smile. “Really?” He asked back. I peeked up in through the window to see her nod her head with a smile. And Alan looked like he was about to bounce off the walls. “So do you think we should tell Sam and your brothers?” She asked with a questionable smile. “Nah they already know.” Alan replied. “We can see you peeking through the door, Sammy.” Alan said looking at me from the door.

“Okay you caught me, so you two are going out on a date.” I cheered as I opened the door laughing. “Yeah. I guess we are.” Alan said smiling at Penny again. After that our mom and dad got home and made supper and when we all finished we all went to get ready for bed. Penny and I washed the makeup off of our faces and I helped her take the contacts out before Penny, Audrey, and I went and got dressed for bed after getting in the shower and brushing our teeth. I got dressed in a white tank top with some black spandex and some long black socks with two white stripes at the top of them. “Do you guys want to watch some movies?” I said going into my closet and pulling out a bunch of horror movies and some romance movies with a smile. Audrey and Penny sat on the edge of my bed nodding their heads. “I'll get the popcorn.” I said beginning to walk out of the room. “I'll get the drinks.” Penny said following me. “And I'll get the candy.” Audrey said smiling and finally following us down the stairs. I reached inside of the cabinet and pulled out three extra large bags of popcorn and set them on the counter. Penny went in the fridge and pulled out a bunch of sodas and grabbed plastic cups, Audrey went in the secret drawer that only I knew about and where I hide all my candy. She took the lock off and reached inside pulling out a bunch of candy. She reached in the back of it and pulled out a few bags of takis before looking at me. “What? My brothers would have eaten them if I didn't put them on there, so we...are lucky.” I said snatching a few bags, grabbing a huge bowl and helped Audrey put all the candy inside.
We all went back up to my room, I put the first horror movie in before we all sat down. Penny and Audrey laid down on the floor and I laid down on the bed facing the tv. We all split up the popcorn, the drinks, the candy, and the takis before beginning to watch my favorite horror movie. We weren't counting how many movies we watched but we all passed out after we were all done eating.
