Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Each individual has his or her own
perspective on what is beautiful. Their own interpretation of what evokes admiration, a
certain physical and emotional appreciation. Some look in the mirror and find their
reflection as beauty. I too find beauty when I look at a reflection yet my mirror is not
quite one of glass. But rather a blank page, for my view of beauty lies in self-expression.
Written in my own distinct handwriting, this is who I am for I am what I write.

Permanent in ink, no eraser is needed because I hold no regret. Writing is my way
Of free expression, to transform into whoever I want to be yet remaining entirely myself.
The words flow on to the page as if bleeding directly from my heart. Speaking my mind
is not as easy as it seems, yet putting ideas to paper feels so natural. I write without a
destination, but rather for the journey. When I write it can be without purpose yet still full
of meaning. It can propose a challenge, yet an obligation enjoyed nonetheless

A cave ready to be explored, a blank page holds endless possibilities and I am
equipped with all the tools. Here is where the art of writing holds its beauty… It is the
beauty of opportunity; it is all my choice to transform a page into anything I wish. A
glimpse of something great, of something beautiful, a blank page is unpredictable and
unconditional. It is constantly stirring one’s intellect by presenting so much potential.
Will it recount an anecdote of a life-altering event? Will it present an argument with
striking evidence and persuade with words so convincing that the reader trusts the author
more than his own beliefs? Will it flourish into a tale of love, comedy, tragedy, mystery,
or regret? Will it transform into a reflection on fear, or self-accomplishment? A quest for
identity, a search for truth. Or will it merely inform…life lessons, morals, character. Yet
in puzzling contrast, it could plainly document a journal entry, a day in the life. A silly
story made solely to produce laughter. An informative essay in which one learns to
perform a task of minimal importance.

Alas, Beauty lies in the mind of an intellect, in the hands, vision, and brush of an
artist, in the thoughts pen and paper of a writer. What is truly beautiful is one chooses to
express him or herself. The effortlessness and eloquence of pen to paper. Here, I have
been given a blank page, a choice, and with it I have conveyed my innermost thoughts. I
have transformed this page into an essay. Thus I have presented a mirror, a reflection of
myself. Is my reflection beautiful?
