Books for Brains Benefits
Books for Brains Benefits
What would the world be like if we didn’t have books? I know that if we didn’t have books like diaries and social study books we would know barely anything about the past. Fictional books give people the chance to escape into a world that is different from their reality. Political books allow people to learn what is happening, and what has happened in the past in different countries to guide them in their future decision making. A good mystery keeps a person in suspense wondering what will happen next. What I’m trying to say is, life wouldn’t be the same without them. Books benefit people in many ways.
One of the ways that books help people is that when you’re reading a book it can be a stress reliever, giving you a chance to leave your reality for a while and transport themselves into a different place and time. Reading a book can make you feel like you’re actually there seeing it all happen. For example, a book about World War II could let you feel like you’re one of the soldiers in the trenches experiencing what they were going through. Or you could read a book about one of your heroes that gives you a chance to see what he or she went through, to get a glimpse of what makes them who they are. Reading about them may inspire you to rise up and make positive changes in your own life. Some of my favorite books are from the Percy Jackson series. Reading them made me feel like I was a demigod fighting against the titans or monsters to try to save my best friend. These feelings take you away from your hectic life and it brings you into a fictional world, and it takes away stress in the real world. When I’m stressed, sometimes I read, and this helps me get through whatever is troubling me.
That’s not the only thing that books can do. Books expand your knowledge. An example is Anne Frank’s diary. Her diary helps us picture what the Jewish people had to do to get away from the Nazis. Without Anne Frank’s diary we wouldn’t be able to picture what it was like as well, she gave the world so many details of their daily life. Unless you have a relative who was Jewish and who lived during that time who could share their experiences with you, how could anyone know what happened? When you read a book that is more challenging than you normally read, you have the chance to expand your vocabulary. When you find a word that you’re not familiar with, you can use the context that the word is in to figure out what it means, or you could look it up in a dictionary. Reading also helps improve your writing skills, because when you read, you can get used to that writing style, and it can help you improve the way your thoughts flow onto the paper.
Another thing that books can do is teach you how to do something. An example is a manual. A car manual can teach you how to turn on the blinkers, start it, or show you where the gas and brake pedals are. Maybe you are interested in airplanes, and you want to learn how to build your own model airplane that can actually fly. The more you research and read about it may lead you to want to learn about how a real airplane is designed. Who knows maybe someday down the road you are designing life size airplanes. Or maybe you want to learn how to make origami. You could check a book out from the library that can teach you how make interesting origami animals. Books are essential for us to learn how to do things.
Books can benefit the readers more than you may think. You can learn so much about almost any subject. Not only do books help you in the ways I have discussed, but they can help you in many other way. They can help your memory, provide mental stimulation, and can help improve your focus. Why not read, it can provide you free entertainment. All you have to do is go to a local library, and check out a book.
