Have you ever wanted to turn your TV on with your mind? Well recently, Elon Musk's Neuralink, a neurotechnology company attempting to develop an implantable brain in chip form to treat neural disorders, is working to make that dream a reality. The company is currently preparing to begin its first human trials.

Once the chip is implanted into the human brain, it will have tiny electrode threads sink into the brain. Then these threads will communicate with brain cells inside your mind. After that, the chip has a Bluetooth link that will allow it to connect to any other device.

The chip will allow you to control external devices such as your phone, computer, or television based on your thoughts. For example, if you are watching youtube on your laptop and you want to pause a video, your Neuralink chip (that's connected to the computer via Bluetooth) will take that intention from the electrical signals produced by the neurons in your brain and send it to the computer as an action via Bluetooth, which will result in your laptop pausing the youtube video.

This chip could also cure neural disorders such as Alzheimer's by encoding corrective functions within the chip to implement when neurons within the brain become injured. The chip would implement those corrective functions in an attempt to bridge back the connections between the network of neurons, preventing the loss of brain volume and possibly ridding the human brain of Alzheimer's.

This is an important topic because if this invention is successful it will have an enormous impact on the field of neurology. It will change how neurology is instructed because the curriculum must change to involve those who have implantable chips in their brains. And it will allow humans to have new “powers” that will change society as we know it.

I am excited to see what the future holds in the field of neurology, and I hope that Neuralink can successfully bring out an implantable brain that is safe and ready for use.
