Imagine you’re walking down the street and look around the corner to find your lifelong friend and her parents being forced into a car by two men in black suits. Your friend over whelmed and confused and her parent’s faces written with worry. Sadly this is a reality for young illegal immigrants who’s parents brought them here as children. But this can change with Obama’s new policy. They will be able to get a work permit and avoid deportation. Young illegal immigrants who qualify should be able to stay in the country.

The first reason is that there are really high standards that illegal immigrants have to meet to be able to stay in the country. The government is not going to let just anyone stay you have to have a clean criminal record. You have to of come to the country before the age of sixteen and be younger than thirty years old. You also have to of been in the U.S. for at least five years, be a high school graduate, earned a GED, or served in the military. So as you can see there are a lot of standard that illegal immigrants must meet to be able to stay in the country.

The second reason is that the U.S. is most likely the only home these young people have ever known. The people who qualify to stay in the country would have come here at a very young age so English would be the only language they really know, therefore deporting them to countries that are completely foreign to them wouldn’t make sense. Just as The Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano stated “Our nation’s immigration laws must be enforced in a firm sensible manner, but they are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case. Nor are they designed to remove productive young people to countries where they may not have lived or even speak the language.” So you see if these young people were to be deported their entire lives would be taken away from them. And their potential futures would be taken away with it.

Some people argue that Obama’s policy shouldn’t be enforced because they believe it is granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. They also claim that Obama’s policy isn’t legal. Another argument they present is that the economy will get worse. But they’re wrong because this isn’t amnesty it is only temporary and it isn’t a path to citizenship. And the policy is legal because it was passed by executive order. And lastly Obama’s policy will actually help the economy because these young people will be able to work and if they work they have money to buy goods and services.
In short young illegal immigrants who qualify should be able to stay in the U.S. There are many standards that have to be met to be able to stay in the country so there won’t be just anyone staying. And the U.S. is the only home these people know so deporting them would be like sending an American citizen who only speaks English to Tokyo the country would seem foreign to them. So the best thing to do for these young people who have so much potential and so many dreams is to let them stay home here in the United States.
