You Don't Have to Like
Me checking out a new trendy song:
Well, it is just a normal ordinary song.
Me checking out the comment section:
"Absolutely love it." "Lit!" "New Favorite!"
Okay... Maybe different people have differnet tastes. It is okay.
Me checking out the music chart:
"TOP 1"
Wow...okay...maybe it is my problem?
I repeat the song over and over again to make myself like it or at least know some lyrics to follow the trend.
Me going to school afterward:
"JT, do you know that new trendy song?"
"Yea! is it like this?"
Humming...
"Yesss! Do you like it?"
My inner thought:
No, no, no, be true to your self, JT!
My mouth:
For sure!!!! Absolutely love this song.
My inner thought again:
You are a disappointment, JT...
I can really get lost in social media at times. Social media does in some ways make it easier for more people to stand out from the dull norm. Social media provides a easier access for people to show their uniquenesses and talents. However, in another sense, lots of people are following the same musical , fashion, and makeup trends and doing the same dance challenges. You won't have a shared topic to discuss with peers if you don't follow through with those things. So I really wonder if social media encourages and reinforces conformity or if it challenges it.
But still, I just want to say that it might be hard to do, but please always be true to yourself. Rememer, you don't have to like "it" in order to fit in any conversation or group of people.
