Winter Break
Winter Break
Winter break is a joyous time, when children are let out of school, parents take time off work, and the family is together. “Christmas” break is a time for gifts, cookies, and douglas fir trees. Some attend church and pray, while others uphold family traditions. At this time, many believe nothing in the world could be better. However, a group of people aren’t taking part in Christmas traditions.
This and in previous years, our school district has scheduled their Winter break, missing a crucial holiday, Hanukkah. Hanukkah is a time of celebration, and those who celebrate aren’t getting much recognition. With Christmas, people get time off school and time to relax to be able to see family over break. Those who celebrate different holidays don’t have such luxuries.
Can you picture not having break over Christmas? Having to go to school right after you open your presents? For many people, this is not such a distant thought.
Hanukkah is one of the major holidays in the Jewish religion, and is held on different dates every year, but somehow it’s never included in Winter break. People who are Jewish celebrate Hanukkah, and think it is not such a fair conclusion.
