The obstacle that poses the biggest challenges, often comes from ourselves.

Walking along the cement boardwalk that jets

out into the emerald green sea water,

the tingling scent of corn on the cob

and popcorn swishes throughout the air.

The sky is a burning, fiery orange color,

and the sun is starting to say goodbye,

as it disappears into the water.

The lights flash on in the castle,

that stays still on the hill where it has

stood for years and years.

Wondering to the beach as people pass

their voices becoming indistinct.

The sand tickles the bottom of my feet.

Walking closer and closer to the edge of the water

feeling the coldness of the Mediterranean Sea

rise above my ankles, breathing in the salty air.

The sound of a large boat’s horn

shakes me from my thoughts as I make

my way back to where the evening started

before the sun left me in the darkness of the night.

This piece was written about a summer that I spent in Greece, where my mother grew up and where my grandfather still currently lives!

" It is my belief that there are two people in the world: Those who look at clouds and see shapes, and those who look at clouds and see clouds."

It is so descriptive, I love it!
