Runaways
There are kids that run
The ones that are strays
These are the kids
That we call runaways
They run from their pain
Because it’s all they know
They never once learned
To use their pain to grow
One runs from the sounds
The screams and the shouts
The breaking of glass
From which fear seeps out
Two run from the past
From a fight gone wrong
The memory of that gun
Like a deafening song
Three run from the scene
That unfolded under the stars
The one where their brother
Succumbed to his scars
Four run from their fate
But there is no escape
It always catches up
Taking on an evil shape
Five run from hidden pains
The deep, mental kind
Which tears them each apart
Destroys their very minds
All these kids run off
From horrors in the night
Since they weren’t taught
To turn back and fight
These are the kids
Each called ‘runaway’
They run to escape
To survive another day
