The Lioness

I come from Queens , more specifically I came from my mother. She is the strongest female I’ve ever known.

If I came from an animal , I would have come from a strong lioness , a female boss in an animal form.

The lioness has a loud roar , you can hear the vibrations anytime she opens her mouth. She doesn’t fall back when she’s passionate about something.

She has soft fur , used to warm her children from the cold winter nights. Her skin is tough overall , able to handle any type of hardships that come her way. The lioness has years of practice. She knows what it’s like to not have warmth , so she will do anything for her cubs.

The lioness eyes are sharp , able to see anything that comes within her sights. She knows when her children are in danger or if something is wrong.

Her touch is soothing , she knows how to comfort her children if she need to feel better. But those soft hands can turn into rough patches , ready to pounce on anyone if they were the reason her children were hurt.

She tastes like hard work and blood. Her teeth sinks into any prey that falls into her line of sight. Those who cross her will end up perishing by her own hands.

The lioness smells like coco butter and clean sheets. Her scent makes any lion swoon over her , but she ignores them. All she needs are her children , nobody else.

I would take some fur from the lioness. Her fur reminds me of comfort and warmth. But I know she would tell me that she already has raised me to be just as strong as her. Her fur does remind me of all the moments I’ve spent with her , the pretty , the ugly.

But the lioness will always be the woman that I aspire to be. Her strength is empowering to me.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom. This poem I wrote is dedicated to you because I love you so much. Thank you for being the strong lioness in my life, guiding me to become a strong young woman.

The author's comments:

This poem was written by me in one day for my mom as a Mother's Day gift. Poetry isn't my thing, but recently I have started to get into writing more free versed type poetry. This is my first submission here, so feedback and nice comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to read this. <3
