The Struggle of a Young Game Developer
I wish I could have the motivation to make art.
I wish I had a better tablet for art.
I wish I could afford to upgrade my art software.
I wish I could come up with a story.
I wish I could understand collision.
I wish I could learn how to make music,
Or find someone who could do it for me.
I wish I could learn how to self publish a game.

In this poem, I went over my recent struggles with coming up with an idea for a game. The first line is about how I’ve not had the energy to draw sprites for it. I’ve not had the motivation to draw much of anything recently. The second line is about how I keep getting annoyed by my current tablet not having 100% accurate pen tracking. My tablet is new and I was excited about its pen before I got it. However, it is nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. I have to calibrate it a lot and no matter what I do it is never perfect. The third line is about the art software I use. I use Clip Studio Paint, I have a license for the Pro version, however, the Ex version is better for animating, which would be useful for making sprites. The price to upgrade from Pro to Ex is $170, which I can’t afford. It goes on sale occasionally but last time it was on sale for 50% off I didn’t even have that and by the time I got my next paycheck the sale was over. The fourth line is about how I’ve been procrastinating on writing a story for this game. I’ve got an idea of what I want the gameplay to look like, but I still need to write out a story for it. The fifth line is about how I always struggle to understand collision in anything I use. It’s not that I don’t know how to use it, I just dont know how it works. If I understand how it works I can easily add it to some gravity scripts I have memorized, but it just never makes any sense to me. The sixth and seventh lines are about how I have absolutely no clue how to write music, and all games need music. I could have my dad write some for me, but I don’t know if he’s any good at writing background music. And the last line is about how I have no clue how I would publish a game after making it.
