Firefly Pond
I lay by the firefly-lit pond.
The shy bigger animals howled and danced beyond.
The bugs masterfully dance and glide along the water.
The giant trees loom overhead, and many sticks and branches could easily make you falter.
I come here every summer afternoon to witness the sunset and the rising of the moon.
To hear the fish leap and the peepers squeal their clamorous tune.
Way down deep in the gunk and muck is where the bigger monsters sleep
Snoozing away the days for their peacefulness they would like to keep.
Oh firefly lit pond the smell of the weeds and thickets are so strong
I think others would enjoy it here or maybe I’m wrong.
Oh, the tales this pond must keep.
Right below my muddy feet.
Although I don’t like it when the mosquitoes nibble on my hands and toes.
The animals are all my companions I am no foe.
It’s funny how the animals around the pond near seem to ponder what lies over yonder.
