Mile
An infinite loop, the longest of them all, lightly red as though stained by fallen blood. It is slightly soft, but after sixteen hundred meters, no softness will save my feet. Innocent lines marked in white become at first dreaded, then desired with fervent passion. Shoes scuff lightly over the ground, feeling out their new torturer. Then the gun. Then nothing.
