Grain of Sand
I was once a great mountain
That watched civilizations fall
Commanded the winding rivers
And sheltered life in my arms.
As a boulder I have shielded
The ground from rain and wind
Guarded fox kits as they opened their eyes
And watched the trees beside me grow and die.
Now a grain of sand I have traversed
Where the winds and tides have taken me
Across vast barren deserts
And beneath the deepest seas.
O’ benevolent Earth who has bestowed me
This unbounded and timeless journey
I will not request another so precious
Only that you’ll allow me its memories to cherish.
