Ode to Melodies
Colors flicker like the wind,
Spring icicles, coming and slowly melting away,
In steady rhythms like our hearts,
Or the beating of sweet rain,
My mind has grown wings and taken flight,
These bars glide like a soaring falcon,
Tumbling and slurring to no end,
As memories alight and wane,
Aurora borealis; hanging precariously from spider silk,
They pulse before my eyes.
To touch and change,
This is nature’s way,
A melody like an eternal carousel
Liquid joy coiling about our hearts
And springing forth till we wish to burst
A water’s tender surface rippling,
To tangle ourselves among the cresses
Of sweet dripping sunshine and air-thin tresses
That dissipate when one reaches out
To grasp the wandering cascade.
Our smiles change with the tide,
Erupting in every hue,
Their taste upon our lips,
A feeling free from pen and paper, unconfined,
That susurrates of history,
Deep passion burning,
Love; built upon one’s heartstrings,
And rides in the shadows of time,
For colors are sweet delights, but those unseen
Are the most joyous of all.
