Misplaced Happiness
I look out my window, sun rising from the east.
The songbird yellow sun grasps the edge of Earth
pulling itself into my day.
A breeze flees, blasting last night's breath in my face.
With spring en route, winter seeks the door.
A potent aroma of dirt and flowers flood my senses.
Nature rejuvenated, trees bloom,
Earth is calm.
The violent whirlwind clouds my mind.
Pitch-black birds dodge and dive in chaos
screaming past my face, my vision is a blur.
I long for my misplaced happiness.
I grasp my face and shield my eyes.
Patiently I wait, fearful of what may lie ahead.
I remove my hands, rage fills my landscape and eyes.
War wages on.
