"You'll need to know how the story ends, so you'll sit around, even though you should just go." - Forty Days (Streetlight Manifesto)

Empty playgrounds
With the faint trace of children
Broken swings
Like the sway of hope
The terror
These people have to face

Others turn away
Shake their heads and
Say “How terrible”
While eating their dinner
Watching these people
Suffer

Shattered glass
Like the people's faith
Broken wood
Like their children's bones
Hoping for help
But where are they?

Others turn away
Shake their heads and
Say “How unfortunate”
While watching the news
Before they turn the TV
Off

Innocent beings
Unaware of the terror
Scarred children
Searching for their lost families
Burning flames
Destroying everything in its path

Others turn away
Shake their heads and
Say “Oh my”
While skimming the paper
Before they skip to the next
Page

What happened to
“Peace on Earth”?
What happened to
“Equality”?
What happened to
“Make love, not war”?
What happened to those
People aware of the conflict
From different countries?
What happened to
“Voice the problem”?
What happened to
“We can do it”?

We can help
And it all starts with
Knowledge.

This is a poem I wrote while reading through an article about Darfur. I wrote this to address any genocide in the world. I hope this inspires other people to voice the genocide problems so that we may have a peaceful world.
