I want to be content with being an abandoned doll.

A N X I E T Y

Seven letters that haunt my life like a shadow.

Always nipping and pulling on my confidence and skin.

Never letting my mind rest.

Excuse after excuse not to go out

Incredibly skittish and panicked

Eating away at my mind

Telling myself “It gets better”

Yet it never does.

D E P R E S S I O N

Ten letters people think they know

Detaching myself from anyone and anything

Eliminating all possibilities of a normal life

Preparing myself for the worst because I know it’s coming

Regret is always keeping you company

Emotion slowly slips away and becomes apathy

Self-sabotage is always lingering

Serenity and peace a foreign entity

Incapable of pulling yourself out of that pit of dread

Opaque are the waters of tar holding you captive

Numb or overwhelmed are your two options for your quantity of emotion.

A U T I S M

Six letters people mock

Always feeling overwhelmed by your senses

Unable to read social cues

Thoughts always scrambled

Insufferable to others because you don’t act like they do

Suffocating in your own body

Maddening expectations and accusations

Twenty-three letters and three words

That impact my life in such a way

That it makes living a task

Makes “waking up the next morning”

An accomplishment and a curse
