Neurodivergent
I wish I could understand the world
The people on it, out of control
They say I’m “different,” they call me “rude”
I don’t understand them; I wish I knew
Why do they react so strangely to the things I say?
They always want things to go their way
And when they don’t, they lose their minds;
They think their feelings re the same as mine
I know sometimes I’m cynical,
I wish that I were typical
But why is difference perceived as wrong?
Why can’t we all just get along?
Why must they treat me differently?
Our world collapsing in entropy
I guess I’ll always be “different”
Just another neurodivergent

Another therapy session, if you will. Sometimes we need to get our emotions out onto a piece of paper, or in the form of a poem. This piece stemmed from my personal frustrations pertaining to other individuals’ perception of my personality, or the things I say. As someone who could be considered neurodivergent, I often find myself not “fitting in” with most people, making it difficult for me to find someone who understands me completely.
