Permanent
A sweet voice by day guides me,
Gentle dreams to soften the night,
And once in my world there was darkness,
Now there's nothing but light.
Before, there was war and chaos,
Now my soul's at peace within.
My change of heart is thanks to the woman
Whose name I've tattooed on my skin.
I'd gotten it placed beneath my palm,
Just over the veins in my wrist;
To cover the scars I'd self-inflicted
Every time she was missed.
Each stab of the needle brought memories
Of her lips in a smile so fair,
And the ink was sky blue and brownish gold;
The colour of her eyes and her hair.
But when I'd shown her what I'd done,
She'd cried and had fallen apart.
She screamed in my face my love was pathetic,
Thus tearing a hole through my heart.
Oh, the pain her words inflicted,
And I was avoided, forgotten, depressed.
I fell asleep each night praying a stranger
Would shove a knife through my chest.
She was a lie; so fake it hurt to see her,
The torment returned within.
I cut open the stained flesh in haste;
Get this poison out of my skin!
I ripped at the permanent love I'd painted,
Splitting my delicate veins,
Bleeding the ink tainted black-crimson;
Dying, and whispering her name.
