President Jackson and the Cherokee
There once was a trail.
That made the bravest man quail.
It was known as the Trail of Tears.
And it was one of the Cherokee's worst fears.
President Andrew Jackson made an act.
That violated his and the Cherokee's old pact.
Long ago, when the west was weak,
the Cherokee had helped him defeat the Creek.
Now unloyal to that cause, Jackson meant this with every clause;
"The Indians must move out west, for that will surely be best."
The trail began.
And hence this tale of that never-ending trail.
