The End
Our toes in the sand and clouds in the sky,
We splash in the water
“Together forever!”, we cry.
The Leaves are changing color and fall into my hand
And boots and cozy tennis shoes now replace the sand.
The leaves fall even faster now, to quick for me to catch,
I try to chase after them, but am soon out of breath.
The clouds are quickly gathering, a definite shadow overhead.
Trees are bare, ice on the street-everything is dead.
But we collect raindrops in our hands, watching the puddles grow,
My water’s falling faster now, too fast to stop the flow.
The sun peeks through the dark and sullen skies,
We turn our faces down to look with squinted eyes
At fragrant flowers poking up among the trees,
The petals quickly blowing off, one by one in the breeze.
Our toes are in the sand again, the cotton-ball clouds in the sky,
But this time it’s so very different
As the breeze carries off our gently whispered goodbye.
